12 oz, mfd . Nov 06, 2008. Clear darkish brown with a two finger head. Aroma of molasses, skunk and toasted nut. Flavor is the same. LIght-medium body is dry and tingly. Probably good beer if your in Laos on vacation.

As always tasting beer after a day spent on various long haul busses, tuk tuks and boats it was the best beer I’ve ever had. On reflection it’s passable darkish ale and a wonderful relief from the sea of fizzy lager to the south. Pours like a flat coke, slight biscuit taste, wee bit of hops and sweetness

not too much on the dark front. the aroma is mostly weak, taste is a little soapy, with some rice background that is common in Asian made beers. drinkable

The aroma is a bit skunked with a little bit of caramel malt, chocolate, nuts, and a touch of grassy hops. The appearance is cola brown with a small head. The flavor is sweet and bitter but a lot like the aroma and also skunked. The palate is thin. Overall this is not that good and hardly a schwarzbier.

UPDATED: MAY 11, 2009 Pours brown cola color and transparent. Better than regular Beer Lao with some caramel, chocolate, roasted malt, and dark/rye bread. Hardly a great schwartzbier, but an excellent alternative to the abundance of light lagers in Asia.

11.2 ounce bottle from State Line Liquors. Pours a brownish red color with a medium head. Fair head retention and lacing. Very sweet and almost sherry-like aroma with sweet malts, oak, grain and tart fruit notes. Taste is grain, raisin, prune, chocolate and a faintly bitter finish. Medium bodied and sticky.

Bottle from Case and Keg. Brown pour very thin white head. Aroma is malty, sweet, honey and grain. Flavor is overly malty and too sweet. slight bitter finish, but not much. Meh.

12oz bottle courtesy of Ann. Pretty medium colored for a dark beer, transparent tan-brown color. Mild sugary sweet aroma. Toasty, some mild dark chocolate tastes. I’d drink the hell out of this beer if I resided in Laos. Smooth, with a quality mouthfeel. This is pretty harshly underrated. A nice Schwarzbier all the way.

JPDIPSO (4956) - Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, USA - FEB 24, 2009
Light brown color with an aged ivory colored head. Aromas of cocoa and dark caramel. I’m catching some sharpie scents as well. Flour glue and light alcohol flavors. Bits of toasted grain and wild honey. Lifeless fell. Not real clean and as close to glue as I’ve had since kindergarten.

Bottle - Had at Thai restaurant. Basically what you might expect from a dark lager brewed in Laos and served at a Thai restaurant. Thin, mild body, and good with spicy thai food.
