3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: MAR 24, 2010 Beerlao Dark is near and dear to my heart. Too bad it is impossible to find in the states. 330 mL bottle (the only thing it comes in as far as I know). Pours a clear, dark red with a very thin off-white head. Okay lacing. Aroma is slightly skunked with some lighted roasted malt, honey, and caramel. Very unpredictable and can range from a skunked soy sauce to a great, chocolatey dark beer. Very smooth and light on the palate. Lots of rice in the background and a bit of balancing hops. Alcohol is not entirely masked but is not warming. Overall, the best beer you will find in SE Asia.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle. Pours a clear dark mahogany brown with a thin to medium sized beige head. Toast and a touch of roasted malt on the nose. Gentle malt and a touch of roast. Slightly nutty, toast, more malt. Finishes with a slight sweetness and roasty malt. Decent and easy drinking. Pleasantly surprised.

3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
33cl brown bottle pours brownish copper with full tan head and spotty lacing. I’m clueless on how this could be a Vienna style beer. Ratebeer confounds at times. The aroma is a little dusty and then offers up modest earthy notes, spicy hop notes, a touch of roasted malts, nuttiness and gravel road. The taste has sweet malt infused nuttiness rolling slowly into a bit of roasted malts, spicy hops and earthiness. Pretty nice stuff.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
You never expect much from these southeast
Asian breweries, but this one isn’t bad. Not an american style dark lager though, more of a European style, not a dunkel though.
