UPDATED: MAY 11, 2009 Pours brown cola color and transparent. Better than regular Beer Lao with some caramel, chocolate, roasted malt, and dark/rye bread. Hardly a great schwartzbier, but an excellent alternative to the abundance of light lagers in Asia.

Not a bad one. Good flavor with slight roasted notes for the the dark lager. Not a lot of head, and pretty light. Decent brew to drink.

33cl brown bottle pours brownish copper with full tan head and spotty lacing. I’m clueless on how this could be a Vienna style beer. Ratebeer confounds at times. The aroma is a little dusty and then offers up modest earthy notes, spicy hop notes, a touch of roasted malts, nuttiness and gravel road. The taste has sweet malt infused nuttiness rolling slowly into a bit of roasted malts, spicy hops and earthiness. Pretty nice stuff.

33cl bottle in Phnom Penh. Quite disappointed with this beer this time. This was my favourite beer the last time I visited Indochina and I remembered it as quite delicious. This time it was just a sweet and malty bland beer with some caramel and just a hint of spices. Quite sweet and sugary. Very little bitterness. I still think it would taste better in Laos - it was probably much fresher in Vientiane. It’s still drinkable, but far from a great beer. (2012-04-30)

A watery malted beer. Kind of reminds me of negra modelo or something. Aroma nearly nonexistent, flavor not too much better

Wässrig röstiger Start. Verbrannt, kaum aromatisch, unpassend süß werdend. Wässrig bitterer und röster Nachgeschmack. Ziemlich schlecht. 9/5/6/5/7/5

From a florida bottle shop. Pour is pretty good looken, darker brown with a nice white head that holds. Smell is old lager. Yes, has some of that old lager flavor but for the most part it goes down fairly easy. A little better than that last vienna I had. Decent amount of co2 but could have a little more sizzle in there. Yep, there is that old aged canned lager feel in there but this stuff does come across ok. Does a fair job of hiding the near 7%.

Well I enjoy the Beerlao Pale lager despite not caring for that style much, and I love love love Viennas, but unfortunately I think they dropped the ball on this. It’s hard to swallow it down, really. Nice that they tried, at least.

From an expired bottle, pours a nice orange red color with a nice off white head. Aroma of caramel malts and candy. Flavors of caramel malts, candy and straw. Light body, but nice and refreshing taste. Not bad for a asian.

Had with some spicy Thai food and it balanced it out nicely. There was little roast malt flavor but the beer was fairly malty with not much else.
