UPDATED: MAY 11, 2009 Pours brown cola color and transparent. Better than regular Beer Lao with some caramel, chocolate, roasted malt, and dark/rye bread. Hardly a great schwartzbier, but an excellent alternative to the abundance of light lagers in Asia.

Pours a clear, amber-orange color, with a soon collapsing, bubbly head. Smells of grains, rustic bread and toffee malts, with an earthy, slightly perfumy note. Has a pleasantly light body, with a malty flavor profile to it, enriched by the beers bubbly carbonation. Tastes of a bakers chocolate, earthen foundation, together with a faint coppery note, which introduces more and more toffee to the palate. The toffee quality turns slightly sticky during the finish, with a refreshing, slightly metallic carbonation. Turns a tad one dimensional sweet, solely relying on the malts, while producing a nice earthiness, adding some depth.

Shared 11.2 oz. bottle. Pours amber and clear, with a messy white head. Spotty lacing. Aroma is malty and sweet. Taste is more sweet malt and caramel. Low bitterness. Not much going on with this one.

Aroma: fairly typical for lager with some underlying malt Appearance: dark amber with fluffy white head that dissipates fairly quickly; Taste; firehose of malt with nothing else; sickeningly sweet; Palate: medium body with fluffy white head; Overall: Not good; would not buy again.

12 Apr 2016, bottle. Dark Amber, clear some steady bubbles. Nose is sweet, caramel syrup. Ned/thin body and moderately fizzy. Sweet, caramel, cherries, sticky sweet. Actually not as bad as I expected. Certainly a sweet Vienna lager but still rather nice.

Bottle@Laos. Browny beer with a reasonable head. The aroma is malty with some bitterness. The flavour is bitter with malty and mild roastedness and yeast. Overall a reasonable dark malty lager.

From a bottle. Nowhere near as bad as I’d expected, some mild caramel and biscuit malt flavours.
