1.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 3/20
Weird bitter flavor to this, was hard to swallow even a few swallows worth. Didn’t care much for it.

Mild flavor with nothing special of note...mostly malty with slight hops...tastes like a slightly cheap tasting beer

1.9 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 7/20
Pours a clear golden yellow with small loose head. Sweet light malt, grain and a touch of caramel. Taste is as it smells with a slightly dry aftertaste. Light body with gentle carbonation. Typical mass market lager.

1.8 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 3/20
33cl-bottle. Thanks to Rian.

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Tried this first on a boat in Laos. A fairly average and generic lager, quite hoppy but generally quite bland. Little or no head and soft carbonation. Havnt tried it outside the country but I’m sure it wouldn’t travel very well.

1.3 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 5/20
330ml bottle. Some skunky aromas, cereal ones, maybe corn?. Pours bright gold, very clear, with vanishing white head. Light body, average carbonation, crispy texture. Taste is malty, cereal, some weird flavours, mild bitter. Swill.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
It is reputed that Beerlao includes rice in its brew, and there is something different here - perhaps a hint of sweetness that you don’t normally get in a lager.
The beer pours well, with a good lace and has a pale yellow colour. It is the "national treasure" of Laos, and is consumed in vast quantities everywhere within Laos. In Laos it is usually served in 640ml bottles, but I have seen it in 330ml bottles both in Laos and in Australia.
The beer has (as indicated above) a slightly sweet flavour. Whilst this might sound that it might cause a bloated feeling, in Laos it does not - as proven by significant market testing. This might be due to the warm weather.
I know of one or two people who (over time) can find that their bodies react badly to Beerlao, with stomach pains etc... This has led those rather rare exceptions to have to moderate their consumption - or at least switch to other beers. However, this should not be a concern for tourists, as the reaction (if it occurs) is only after prolonged exposure (e.g a year).

3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pale gold, thick rapidly diminishing white head; standard malty lager aroma; bought a 640ml bottle ages ago and never found an occasion to drink it, until tonight’s Chicken Jalfrezi presented the perfect opportunity; it’s an above average pale lager, with a pleasant lemony character, maybe some sweet honey too; it probably needed the spicy food, but this is much better than most of the other Asian lagers I’ve tasted.

3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Poured into a pint glass.
pours a crystal clear light straw yellow with a one finger white head. I was impressed by the head retention and the pretty substantial lacing on the sides of the glass. Quite nice.
Aroma is very grassy with just a little hint of cooked vegetables and metal. Some lemon sneakinig through as well but overall, it is a bit on the weak side.
More bread and grass on the aroma with really no hint of metal. Some lemon sneaking through along with a little DMS although it remains nicely restrained. Mouthfeel is quite soft averall with just a touch of sweetness leading to a dry finish.
Overall, another run of the mill Europ pale lager although this one is better than average. Paired really nice with curry and pleasant to drink on a hot day.
