This Belgian blond has a lively sweet aroma and a clear light brown color. The head is fast disapearing but lively. The flavor is gripping on the tongue with a nice sweet texture and smooth palate. All around a great blond!

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 16/20
33cl bottle. Hazy darker orange with a fairly big head. Nose : hay and caramel malts. Quite fruity with ester aromas of cherry, banana. Citrus zest aromas of orange. Spicy mustard and clove mostly. Sip : low to medium density and a bit mouthful feeling. After de-carbonation it holds still strong bubbles. It has a sweet and strong cereal and spicy start. The taste develops a sour transition into a very delicate bitter hops. Tasty beer. A good brew. Extra points for the brewer that has a great open minded personality ans always ready to share some interesting conversation about the greatest subject of all : the beer !

Bottle 33cl from altonbrownd thanks. A clear golden beer with huge head. Nose is sweet like and on agrumes. Aroma is malty, very hopy with agrumes notes, peppery, bitter, near to a Duvel hops bouquet. Finish is a bit astringent, malty and with good bitterness, a classic Belgian ale.

33 cl bottle @ hotel room, Brussels. Rated on 14.4.2009
Aroma is typical to belgian: malty and sweetish with some spices and fruits. Flavour has malty yeast and hints of citrus and spices.
This was sold for me when I asked for Tripel Karmeliet. A bit tripel-like but totally not really the same stuff. I wonder if the shopkeeper wanted to sell his own stuff. Not bad though.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Orange colored with cloudy appearance. Medium sized white head. Sweet and raisinny aroma, fruits with some orange and pear here as well. Medium bodied, carbonated palate. Flavor is more yeasty with some spices as well, still this sweet fruity-peachy note comes up as well. Aftertaste is still fruity, with some yeast.

The beer glass for this beer is definitely quite exquisite, though how it is remotely worth 60€ is beyond me. The beer pours with a frothy, meringue like head that is just palely tanned. There is a touch of haze to the golden body. The beer is aromatic with a spicy / floral character to it; I get notes of ginger, white pepper, honey-like malt, bright pear and ripe green apples as well as notes of clove and cardamom. Hay-like pale-wheat like aromatics are joined by some cracker like notes as well. When sediment was added to the glass it contributes an earthy, yeasted note to the aroma and somehow rounds things out.
The beer is fizzy, with a carbonic, peppery bite to it as it first hits my tongue. There is a touch of malt sweetness (honey and sweet pale malt) here, but it is dry overall because of the hop bite, bitterness and spicy, peppery finish. The malt character contributes a hay like and cracker leaning dryness to this beer. Spicy clove notes are quite apparent and there are also notes that remind me of coriander, cardamom and perhaps even some nutmeg. Addition of the sediment brings a roundness to the flavor that mutes the pepper and adds an earthy yeast note to the finish.
This seems to be a beer meant to be drunk and enjoyed on a daily basis. It is very well balanced between the malt, hop, spice and yeast character that all play an equal role, contributing to a harmonious whole. The glass really is quite nice, and at the least, very interesting and no doubt contributes to the overall effect of this beer.
