Bottle shared with the District posse. Joan Jett black pour with a mocha head. The nose is fabulous with that classic Stormakporter fudge and undercurrent of oak, dark roasted malts and caramel. Bold dark roasted malts, fudge, vanilla, all kinds of wood, and brewer’s licorice notes. Just another insanely awesome beer from the Swedish master’s that I was lucky enough to try..............

Bottle… This beer rocks!… Pours dark brown and murky with a miniscule, creamy, khaki head. The aroma screams “VANILLA” and “FUDGE” with a small splash of vinous tawny port. Full-bodied and velvety with soft carbonation. The flavor presents sweet fudge, vanilla and mocha up front; then heavy, burnt, woody bitterness on the flip-side. Finishes scorched, bitter, mildly acidic and lightly acrid. Big-time thanks to a good friend for sharing this world class wonder! You know who you are.

Pours a deep black with a small tan head. Nose is wood, rich chocolate and roasted malt. More pure and sweeter up front than normal kaggen. Has a smooth woody bitterness on the backend. Wood is there throughout and gives this beer a very clean overall balance. I liked this quite a bit more than regular Kaggen. Huge thanks to the supplier of this bottle, you know who you are.

Ben equilibrata e complessa.

An exceptional example of a porter. The pour was jet black, which then birthed an low but thick espresso head. This slowly receded into lacing. Strong notes of cocoa, coffee, some vanilla are upfront in the nose. Got some dark chocolate, milder coffee and dark fruits (predominantly candied prunes) invade the palate. Some of the wood tannins are mildly apparent in the back. What a treat! Thanks to JW!!

12/14/14/15//14

11.2oz bottle into a small tasting glass at the Närke brewery with owner-head brewer, Hans. This is a special Kaggen. They took the 08 version and put on pure Swedish Oak barrels that never contained any alcohol for three months. The barrels were made by a top cooper in the area. It was then released only at the First Borefts Beer festival at De Molen. The brewer let most beers go at the festival but kept a few for himself. As a side not he has two more barrels aging for a special 5 year anniversary beer, another super small batch. I was told a year ago this was too harsh and woody as the oak showed off way to much. When I tasted it, thought it was really good. The oak really presents itself on the aroma, but its really smooth and yummy. The taste is really smooth, the oak is present but doesn’t dominate, this is a great beer. Not as great or complex as the whiskey version as it lacks any of the sweet vanilla, but this is still awesome. If you’re lucky enough to be one of the handful of people who sees this beer, you should try it.
