4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 Lukaduke (114) - Portland, Maine, USA - MAY 26, 2012
Pours a rusty burnt sienna color with a one finger off-white head that rides the beer for a bit with a touch of lacing.... Bright earthy aromas of raspberry, granny apple, biscuit malts and hints of oak and balsamic vinegar. The flavors follow the nose nicely but the carbonation delivers it in a more refreshing way than I had expected. Full of sour cherries and tart notes that mingle well with the dark malty sweetness. Classic !

deep reddish brown, nearly mahogany with minimal head. very mild carbonation. sourness is slightly vinegary with a hint of soy sauce which i’m trying to ignore. there is also a nice fruity nature to this, seems to be mainly cherry and/or raspberry. i’d probably classify this as "more interesting than good", but i’d certainly have it again.

25cl bottle shared at Akkurat, Poured in a stemmed glass. Vintage: 1992 (I hadn’t reached double-digits in age yet when this was brewed/bottled). Deep brown in color with single (frothy white) fingernail head on medium pour. Smells of currants, toasted almond, apple, and cherry. Smells nice for a 20 year old brew! Tastes leathery, dull, and boring. Dried dark fruit and soft vinegar, but that’s about it. Age got the best of this with regards to taste, but the smell is still holding up quite well. Either way, it was a fun beer to try and the oldest I’ve enjoyed to-date.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 b3shine (210) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - MAY 17, 2012
Bottle to tulip. Looks decent; pretty dark though. Smells spicy and flemishy. Tastes cidery with average mouthfeel. Definitely not "the most refreshing beer in the world."
2.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 BlackHaddock (1709) - Shropshire, ENGLAND - MAY 17, 2012
Brown 25cl bottle best before 29th April 2009 and drank on a cold, dry afternoon in December 2008.
Poured into a Palm tulip glass.
Teak wood red in colour, with a good firm tan head on top. Looks a little mirky, but there is no light here today, so we’ll go with a slightly hazey complexion.
Old cherries, sour cherries, almonds and rotting undergrowth are the smells I got.
The old and sour cherries win the taste race, no sign of the almonds and rotting veg (thank goodness).
Can’t pretent to love this style or this beer, but it is different and if that ’floats your boat’ then all well and good, but I like beer to taste like beer.
Body isn’t heavy, but it has a presence, the aftertaste is fine, no nasty metallic feel or cardboard dryness here. Just those cherries.
3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Vestergaard (21) - Aarhus C, DENMARK - MAY 16, 2012
Looks delicious. Fairly dark and ’brown-aleish’. Smells like malt, banana and raisins. Perhaps a little cinnamon too. Taste is rather surprising compared to the smell: Hops, berries, vinegar. Reminds me of the skinless surface of an apple that have turned brown. Little flat beer despite a rather solid head. Rather nice, but as far as i recall i would really prefer the Rodenbach Gran Cru.

amber red, with light head. smells of one of my shampoos (ganier respons) and potato. taste of honey, apple and hop. a bit sticky, maybe because of honey. great sour beer, but usually this type of beer is not my favorit.

Bottle (BB 2013)
Acidic aroma, with some overripe fruits. A bit wine.
Redbrown, tan head that melts rather fast.
Fruity taste, berries and a sour finish.
A bit fizzy like soda.

750 ml bottle, My buddy Tom shared this bottle with me. A deep, murky brown color. Very small thin head. Small rings of lace. Nose is raisin and light vinegar. Flavor has a light sourness with marginal ripe fruit. Wood characteristics are also known. Medium in body with a dry texture. A classic example from one of the original sour brews. Nice.
