750 ml bottle from Randall’s. Strange to see this cherry-chocolate beer called a Belgian Ale, but what do I know. Pours an opaque, murky chocolate brown color with a small beige head. Aroma of nuts, chocolate, toasted brown sugar, earth, and some sweet cherries- pretty simple. Not much Belgian character. The cherries are more prominent in the flavor and backed by toasted and chocolate malts, earth, and rust. Medium-bodied, with medium carbonation and a gritty, metallic mouthfeel. There is an off-putting metallic or medicinal note throughout this. Strange. Yet another cherry-chocolate beer that doesn’t totally work.

On tap at vintage. Chocolate moose head. Odd choco aroma. Very dark and stouty looking. First impression is very good bubbly and sizzly co2. Wierd off choco background, like unsweetened dark baking chocolate. Can’t get over that. Leathery. Finish is the same, can’t get over that weird choco thing, a little unnatural but probably this is what choco is supposed to taste like?

This is a fairly smooth porter with an extra chocolate aroma that is combined with a semi-sweet, fruity aftertaste. It didn’t stick with me after drinking as much as I had anticipated it to, and among the world of porters I would say that it is middle-of-the-road, but definitely worth trying.

Drank a pint on draft at Malt & Vine in Redmond. Nice dark, translucent pour, with a liberal amount of head that clings well to the side of the glass. Nice complex Belgian brown aroma, with caramel, apple malt and some cherry and chocolate. Flavor starts somewhat sweet, with a sour finish. Substantial body due to the high malt concept. Not highly carbonated. Really easy to drink. Overall, another very nice offering from Ommegang!
NOTE - This is not a porter, it is a Belgian dark ale.

Bottle @ home. Found this at my parent’s house after thinking I had given away my only bottle. Deep brown appearance with a creamy, brown head. Rich, sweet chocolate, anise, red fruity, cherry, tangy aroma. Tart, slight medicinal cherry, sweet fruity, toasty chocolate malty flavor. I really dislike the fruity taste as I get a medicinal element.

Pours an opaque dark brown with a slight, lingering head. Smells of coffee, chocolate and fruit (berries). Tastes like cherries, chocolate, smoke and malt. Tastes slightly sour at first, then moves into a distinct chocolate-ice cream taste at the finish. Yum.
