Taster at Standard Market. My last chance to come here for a luncheon tray before I start a job up in Northbrook.,And I am surprised to find it’s my first Begyle rating, unless there was a collab from earlier. So this fits nicely in the profile of much-abused "Irish Red Ale." A clean, faint nose with just a slight amount of esters. Ruddy amber color with a thin fizzy head. taste is good and strong on the spiciness of a caramel roast malt, deeper than, say a pale ale. Full malt taste with what seems to me (and I have proven absolutely no expertise) to be an English hop, perhaps with Centennial finish. Just a slight, but fully present, note of peat makes this a great finish.

On tap at Ellyn’s Tap & Grill in Glen Ellyn, IL., and dispensed to a tulip maybe a little too cold, showing a cloudy, brownish amber color, with off white head foam that reduced expeditiously to a ring & bubbly film, but showed some decent cling to the spots & strands of lacing, The nose was toasty, light grain & biscuit, nutty & lightly woody, light leather, and a nonoffensive, but fleeting hint of scrambled eggs/sulfur. The taste was somewhat similar and nondescript, but mellowed and got more cohesive upon warming. Hop bitterness was moderate, with little lingering quality, medium bodied, with fair carbonation. Fairly drinkable, and paired well with the appetizers.
