On tap during the Főzdefeszt, Hungary’s first Craft-Beer Festival in Budapest. It was quiet hard to situate this beer to my personal experience. Hard to compare with other beers that I know. Dark beer, small foam. For a 9% ABV it’s a light tasting beer, a surprise to me, soft roast caramel and the bitterness is low. I’m confused and surprised as well. But I’ve enjoyed the beer and I’ll definitely give it an other try if I have the possibility. BTW, I really hope that the Hungarian Craft Beers will find their way in the Budapest Pubs, which is not the case yet.

Bottle at Gastropub Tuulensuu. Opaque black color, tiny off-white head. Licorice and caramel in the nose. Medium-bodied. Sweet, kind of flat palate. Licorice, alcohol, caramel. Not much else. Homebrewish

Bottled- Very deep red colour, small brown head. Aroma is rosewood, some sweet malts, mild spices as well as some burnt sugar. Flavour is very much alcohol, some resin, some herbs and spices and a tongueburning alcohol sting to it. A bit like floral extra kick in the back.

0.33 l bottle at Tuulensuu, Tampere. Almost black dark reddish brown color. Aromas of dark sugar, dark bread and hot alcohol. Sweet taste of rummy molassess, charcoal, licorice and earthy cellar. Somehwat boozy finish. I did not like the stale cellar notes of this beer.

33cl bottle @ home. Gift from armando629 and Balazs (Csak a Jó Sör - Only Good Beer, Budapest), many thanks! Black color, minimal brownish head, no lacing. Nose is roasted malt, caramel, dark fruits, flavor is licorice, hint of wine, light coffee, chocolate, syrup. Alcohol is quite much present. Taste medium sweetness, medium bitterness, lightly sour. Medium body, thin texture, nearly flat carbonation, moderated dark chocolate bitter finish with some sweetness. Fine dessert beer, but a bit too sweet for me, and alcohol should be more hidden.

Kuriózum és maximális kulinaritás. Perfekcionalista absztraktum, fluidális manifesztáció. Éljenek az idegen szavak ;)

9% doppelbock. The name Black Rose really does fit this specialty of Szent András Brewery (Hungary). Pouring deep brown with off-white creamy head that also shows something like brownish shade in it. Very well-malted body, with tastes of fruits, and quite surprisingly, some coffee-like aroma emerged too.

Aki szereti a barnát, annak kötelező!
