Named after California’s Highway 78, this India Pale Ale was brewed in commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of the city of Vista. With plenty of Galaxy, Falconer’s Flight, Southern Cross and just a tad bit of Nelson hops, our latest IPA is truly sessionable. Aroma’s include grapefruit, passionfruit, and citrus.

Dank hops and a whole lotta citrus. Orange, grapefruit, pineapple. A classic West Coast (San Diego) style IPA to me. Less pine and more citrus than some of its brethren.

Draught @ Whole Foods, Hillcrest, San Diego. Aroma is sweet and heavy with tropical fruits. Also fruit candy. Flavour has pineapple juice and some minerals. There’s some dry and plastic off-flavour present. Decent.

UPDATED: AUG 25, 2015 Appealing tropical citrus pine aroma in a golden amber pour. Restrained hop forward balance with a fruity malt body. Sustained bitter finish is crip and clean.

Poured from 12 oz. can. Very lightly hazy, golden color with a 2-finger ivory head and good lacing. Aroma of citrus, light fruit and caramel. You can recognize from the aroma that this is an IPA, but it was far from an enticing aroma. Taste of stone fruit, sweet oranges, other citrus, pine and caramel. The flavor is certainly robust. I just didn't find it very interesting. Medium/full body and medium/low carbonization. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Draft at the North Park tasting room. Pours gold with a white head. Fruity hops, mild citrus, some sweeter malty notes, some lighter floral notes, and a mild lingering bitterness. Pretty good.

bottle -didn’t seem particularly fresh, and I am usually a pretty big fan of theirs. Hops were there as described, but very subdued and "too" balanced...ie too malty.

Aluminum can from Haggen: Poured a pure golden elixir liquid with a frothy foam cap that quickly retreated. Aroma is faint but does allow of a whiff of floral hops and also hay like smelling malts. Flavor is bland with a salty sea water taste and notes of hop that have faded in time. The codes on the cans state some weird numbers that only a representative of the distributor or brewery would be able to translate. Still taste like a good beer with notes of sour acidic hop pellets and solid backing of a hearty bread-like malts that still hold this IPA together despite hops that have aged past their prime. Bitter mouth taste that at times is puckering which makes this 78 IPA memorable. Will certainly favor this beer over some of the other expensive six-packs out there if the price is cheap like it was this time.
