It’s Old! …and Dirty! At 10.5% alcohol by volume, our Russian Imperial Stout is our biggest beer brewed to date. With the majority of our batch going into rye bourbon barrels, this winter seasonal is already highly coveted in the tasting room … Protect ya neck.

On tap at the Vista brewery. Made sure I let this one get slightly warm before dining to get the messy flavors possible. Pours black with an of white/beige head. Smells of rye whiskey, coffee, vanilla and chocolate. The taste is where this beer shines. Like some barrel aged stouts they can be over powering in the whiskey category but this one just has a nice sweet flavor with the lingering warmth of the bourbon. It coats the mouth with that great barrel flavor and chocolate and vanilla. Overall an amazing beer

November 19th, 2013 - Enjoyed at Belching Beaver’s North Park tasting room, the Old Dirty Barrell is perhaps the most unexceptional, non-repugnant beer I’ve had from this brewery. Everything about the aroma and taste is average, moderate and middling. The flavors and aromas are all resent and accounted for: booze, malt, dark chocolate - but it all feels very, very two dimensional, unmemorable and very plain. On the plus side, it’s not bad, or memorably so. Just there, and just so.

On tap in North Park. Excellent rye whiskey, and vanilla oak character on the nose. Thick mouthfeel, some alcohol heat, but a great barrel aged stout.

I had this on tap at Belching Beaver Brewery in Vista, CA. (You can’t make up a name like that). This black pour was roasty, with some chocolate notes, but not as rich as other imperial stouts.
