3.9 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Very dark black on the pour with a creamy brown head. Hints of peanut butter reminiscing of opening a bottle of Skippy and sweet honey. Taste of peanuts and coffee grounded together. Enough said! Great roasty flavor lingers. A Must!

September 25th, 2013 - Belching Beaver’s Peanut Butter Stout is slowly becoming their hallmark beer - the flagship carrying the brand. Whenever I walk by the brewery, there is invariably more than one pint of the stuff on the counters. And it’s occupying more and more space on shelves. Beers like this tend to get picked up in two stages, and it is the second one that’s crucial for long-term success. First, there’s a wanton curiosity. Shoppers see the peanut butter stout’s label, chuckle to themselves, ask what the world is coming to, and buy a bottle. Ideally the consumer then finds that this beer - this oddity - isn’t a prank, but a delicious beverage. And I believe BB’s Peanut Butter Stout meets that second threshold. The smell is closer to hazelnut and mocha, with touches of toffee and pecan pie, rather than mashed generic peanut butter cups which is never a tasty as it sounds. Peanut butter is more articulately expressed in the taste, a slightly more dairy rich version of Reese’s peanut butter cups, but adding a coffee bitterness to balance out the peanut butter sweetness. It’s good and drinkable, past 1-2 pints, which is a sure sign of restraint when it comes to bold and experimental ingredients.

3.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Big bottle. Dark brown with frothy tan head. Strong peanut butter aroma. Taste is lacking in peanut butter though. Just sweet stout taste basically. Finish could be better too. Had higher hopes for this.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
650ml bottle. Jet black colour with huge, frothy, rapidly diminishing, minimally lacing, brown head. Sweet-ish, dark malty aroma, hints of peanut, treacle, a touch of sugar icing. Taste is sweet dark malty, sugary flavoured, a touch of hundreds and thousand, hints of peanut, treacle, cola; viscid texture. Rather nice and drinkable, not as overdone as e.g. High Water’s Campfire Stout.

3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Tasted through a bomber bottle. Slight aroma of peanuts through off the bottle. Similar to peanut butter it sticks to the mouth after swallowing. There is a little bit a peanut flavor but not as much as one might expect.
