12oz bottle popped open with some enthusiasm and poured out a dark liquid carrying a six finger tall mocha head. There seem to be plenty of time to assess the nose as I await the subsiding head to make it down to the beer. The aroma has roasty malts heading toward dark roasted malts and a note of astringency. I do get the odd oatmeal twang lurking off in the background with burnt malts. The lively carbonation hurriedly ushers in dark roasted malts, burnt malts, some drying and mildly tart malts astringency and a bit of coffee. It ends with burnt malts, coffee and chocolate malts. The over carbonation disrupts the anticipated oatmeal enhanced creamy mouth feel.

Black, with a huge brown head. toasty, chocolatey aroma - flavor is dark toast and ash and chocolate and coffee. Some winey notes towards the finish. I enjoyed this one.

12oz - Thick black liquid under dark tan head of large bubbles. Good lace, but no real nose. Nice roasted fromt and hoppy back, but really nothing bridging the two. Better than most locals.

Nice aroma of black malt and burnt toffee. Huge head sits atop a lightly black beer. Very carbonated, somewhat acrid flavor, lots of black malt, some licorice and sourness. Not very sweet. Hmmmm.

Bottle. Moderate malt aromas of molasses and burnt, resin for the hops and light earth for the yeast, with wood, licorice and a faint berry smell in the background. Head is huge, frothy, light brown with excellent lacing and is fully lasting. Color is black. Flavor is lightly sweet and moderately acidic to start and finishes moderately acidic and bitter witha touch of sourness. Palate is medium, dry and watery and has a carbonation between lively and fizzy. It finishes moderately astringent. Too many off aromas and flavors sank this beer.
