Starting with this naturally pure Abitibi Esker water, Mons Abbey Dubbel is brewed with passion and devotion to time-honored Belgian tradition from a blend of Pilsen, Munich and Carafa malts, with Styrian Gold hops for bitterness and Hallertau Hersbrücker hops for aroma, finished with spices, such as licorice, anise and bitter orange peel.

Bottle at La Foire Gourmande in Ville Marie Quebec. Dark brown pour, beige head. Aroma of minerals, dark ripe fruit, such as figs, and plums. A solid sweet yeasty notes with some good cereals. This malted grains, and breads. Sweet finish, a touch of warming alcohol on the end.

The young neighbor Chris brought this to Giovoni’s party Thursday night. Poured a good amount of tan head that slowly disapated into nice lacing. Anise and dark fruit in the nose. Very similar taste, with nice depth to the palate. A bit of sugary sweetness with plenty of malts with the spices and a bit of sour to balance. Good stuff.

(Rating #4963)

Bottle: Poured a clear deep brown color ale with a large brown color head with good retention and some light lacing. Aroma of light fruity ester with some candi sugar and light dry raisins notes. Taste is also dominated by light dry raisins notes with candi sugar and light fruity ester. Malt backbone is pretty solid with some caramelized malt with a light spicy yeasty finish. Body is pretty full with nice creamy texture and good carbonation with no apparent alcohol. Pretty solid rendition of the style.

UPDATED: JUL 7, 2013 Taste of molasse. Way too bitter (hop) for an Abbey brown beer, not worth the try, even for the price. Sorry, not for me

A large beige head with uniform tight and small bubbles settles above the dark brown. Gently vinous, very fruity, a bit spicy and minimally earthy, caramelized ale with little complexity. It is also fairly thin in mouth for a beer of its magnitude and surprisingly sparse in carbonation which obviously accentuates its already considerable sweetness. Spices do chime in a little, adding relief to the finish from which the hops remain in the background to say the least, but they are never a truly major concern. Relatively intense, but limited flavour profile with a big focus on the fruit - juicy grape jelly especially. It makes for a decent ale with higher pretentions, but in any grocery store where you can find this beer at a reasonable price level, you’ll have a Trois Pistoles right beside that seems like a better bargain.

Bottle - 750ml. Dark brown body with a thin off-white foamy/bubbly head. Nice malty/hoppy aroma with fruity, vanilla, and yeasty hints. Taste is well balanced. It carries licorice, brown sugar, and some woody notes. Alcohol is not agressive. Ends with a warming, vineous, bittersweet finish. Enjoyable.

Mix beer and wine and you can make this at home. No joke.. Dark as guinness ... Without the chocolate flavor and add a bit of red wine. Not for me... Ehh ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
