2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 JorisPPattyn (6725) - Antwerpen, BELGIUM - DEC 7, 2007
UPDATED: DEC 16, 2007 Small off-white head over pale ochre-orange beer. Vegetable & deepfried dumplings nose, as batter-surrounded vegetable matter, deep fried. Slightly sweet taste, as well as (cooked) vegetable, DMS. A bit fiery MF, but soon the beer falls flat. I was told this was brewed at a new location (then why the La Binchoise address on the bottle?). Anyway, it needs quite some work.
Additional info from the brewer: brewed by the own brewer at the site at La Binchoise, but independantly. Similar to the Struise Brouwers/ Deca situation.

Bottle thanks to bu11zeye. Bottle listed at 6.6% ABV. Seemed like a witbier to me. Pours with a huge, creamy white head over a hazed yellow body. Good retention from the head. Aroma of coriander, spice, pepper, and light banana esters. Taste is spicy with pear, coriander and wheat. Fizzy and dry mouthfeel.

Hazy orange, big tight head. Big perfumed aroma. Soft mellow malty blond - gentle hopping. No hint of alcohol. Unchallenging, but refreshing.

Bottle. Pours clear light orange with an average, frothy, white head, somewhat diminishing with fair lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (bread, hay, straw, cereal), average hops (grass), heavy yeast (barnyard, earth) with notes of grape, cask, chalk, and bandage. Light bodied, sticky texture, lively carbonation, and a chalky finish. Average duration, light sweetness, acidity, and bitterness.

Hazy straight golden ale with a smallish white sheet of foam for a Belgian ale. On the nose, this has a mostly yeast-oriented aroma profile with clovey, almost rubbery phenols and some DMS from its pils malts. This sounds very negative, but it is not unpleasant, as its vegetal side somewhat compensates for the hops timidity, albeit not gracefully so. Besides that, the malt profile is more vigorous in mouth where joyous pils malt feel grainy, cerealic and fits the yeast’s inherent breadiness though I’m not certain how much I enjoy its soft underlying grainy acidity. Not much estery fruitiness in there which makes the whole ensemble rather simple, but for a lager lover who likes to feel the ingredients, this is not too annoying. Actually feels pretty fresh in mouth and while more hops would be welcome, its cerealic malts never feel overly heavy/sweet and the absence (or close to) of alcohol makes it ultimately refreshing and drinkable by large sips.

Bottle. High creamy and long lasting white had. Hazy light yellow body. Nutty lemon grapefruit aroma. Mild and relatively sweet creamy lemon flavor with a short aftertaste and low carbonationa. Watery and boring in spite of the high alcohol percentage
