33cl bottle, BB 06/06/2013, should be best as a specialty grains.

My first beer in this line. +++ Sampled from an 11.2 oz brown bottle this beer poured a cloudy golden-amber color with a large creamy yellow-white head that lingered and left good lacing. The aroma was tart and bitter lemon and lime with faint bread and moderate sugar. The flavor was tart and tangy with an artificial sugar presence, moderate lemon and lime and touches of chalk and bread. The finish was long tart lemon and lime candy. Moderately full bodied. Odd but interesting.

33cl bottle. Pours hazy golden with a nicely proportioned head and steady bubbles. The nose has pineapple sorbet, with a hint of ginger and perhaps lemon grass. The taste has more of the pineapple and some herbs. The palate is medium bodied with a creamy texture and an elegant finish. Overall, a good balanced blonde.

From notes. First reviewed 1/13/2011. Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a Belgoo oversized wine glass.
Belgoo Magus pours a turbid dark golden gamboge color with visible yeast particles floating around. A fluffy Belgian cap, typical for the style, looks natural sitting on top of the beer.
The has mostly crackery pale malt, some musky earthy hops, and some typical Belgian yeast spiciness. Some cloves and white grape aroma is present as well.
Even with four malts used, pale malt dominates the malt portion of the flavor. It seems a bit heavier on the malt, impacting the mouthfeel as well. The yeast delivers some spice notes, but it could definitely use more. Clove, white grape, green apple, and pear are all noticed. Musky, earthy hops move the sip toward the finish. The end is more fruit and malt.
The dryness that I expect from a Belgian Pale is not as noticeable; instead this is a little fuller and sweeter. Mostly crisp carbonation that also imparts a light creamy character. This gets glossed over on the first few sips due to the more noticeable grainy feel.
I think part of my moderate enjoyment of this beer is due to my palette more than anything. It was impossible for me to stop comparing it to Duvel as I was drinking it, even though as a bigger beer, that belongs in a separate category. With that said, this was decent, although not worth the price tag.

Poured a honey color with a moderate head. Lacing stuck to glass. Lots of sediment in this beer. Aroma has raisin, Belgium yeast, candy, orange. Light sweet, light bitter. Finishes dry. Soft carbonation. Nice aroma. Pretty good Belgium.

As this is my first attempt at writing a written review, I will be somewhat brief and will dispense with the pretense. I found this to be a fairly enjoyable beer. When Georgia first reformed its ABV laws I drank Belgian almost exclusively for 2-3 months. Thereafter, quality American beers began to to penetrate the market. In the past few weeks I have been sampling numerous Belgians, and have realized that my slavish devotion to IPA has kept me from numerous enjoyable beers. I found this beer a bit cloudy and lacking the punchy palate found in excellent Belgians. The aroma was terrific but masked a only slightly better than average taste. Will probably not buy again; unless, of course, my options are severely limited.
