on tap at the black bull, Killearn. Pours lovely amber with frothy head, like a kilkenny. For norwegian, this is like coming to beer heaven, but for connossieurs it’s more like burger king; OK...

Unfortunately this is now the most common beer found in Scottish pubs, replacing tartan special, tennents special, 80/~, 70/~ and any of the other beers that were once a must on every bar in Scotland. Having said that it is not undrinkable, just rather bland. It looks nice, aromas are non-existent and the taste is rather boring. Better than lager but not nearly as good as the older beers it replaced. Always best to stick to micro breweries as these are usually a far better beer.

In particularly poor Scottish country pubs this was often the only Scottish beer available, so I drank more of it than I would have liked on a trip home in April 2008. The canned version has been dumbed down with the unfortunate addition of a nitro-widget - always a bad sign. All in all, this seemed like a shadow of its former self. The curse of Greene King continues to white-ant good beer wherever it finds it. It’s now an insipid ale, short on local character - or rather, any character. Fat nitro head, pale brown. Faint grainy aroma, sweet malts. Nitrogenated creamy body. Nutty malts, sweet toffee and minimal bitterness. Easy drinking but you feel dirty afterwards. (Draught and in can, Scotland, April 08)

Tap at Caledonia Pub(called Best Belhaven Ale). Nice amber color and a surprisingle beautiful creamy head. Avarage aroma and a hoppy taste with a little acidic notes and a balanced carbonation. Good drink with your buds.
