80 Shilling is Belhaven’s classic, hand-pulled, cask-conditioned ale - just like great great great grandpa would have had. It has a classic red appearance in the glass, rich and smooth. An Austrian Emperor once described 80/- as ’the burgundy of Scotland’. Not sure how many he’d had, but the man clearly had taste.

0.5 l bottle („Export”). Poured a clear amber with a small, off-white coloured, creamy and laceing head on its top, which remin filmy. Smell of caramell and yeast. It begins tiny sharp, flavour is of toffee, texture is slick. The malty middle part is of caramell and dried/citrus fruits. The mild finish is citric, fruity and moderate nutty, which remain in a light aftertaste. Easy and good drinkable, overall a good brew.

Hand pulled cask in Perth, Scotland. Poured a dark amber color with a light tan head. Good lacing. The nose is sweet caramel malts. Medium body and smooth mouthfeel. The flavor is sweet malts. A very dry and bitter finish rounds out a decent brew.

UPDATED: NOV 22, 2010 Bottle @ Henrik, Bergen. Pours a lovely, deep mahogany-copper body with a dense and long-lasting creamy off-white head. Smell is bread, caramel and toast, with hints of strawberry. Taste is smooth and mild, with caramel malts and kiwi-ish hops blending seamlessly. Some dry hop bitterness in the aroma. A tiny bit watery, but otherwise a very nice Scottish Ale.

una bitter mediocre alla spina anche se si lascia bere abbastanza bene ma poco persistente sia nell’amaro che nei suoi aromi. all’olfatto quasi inpercettibile.
