4.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Belhaven Black Scottish Stout has a roiling foam at the pour, which sets up as a medium, creamy, cream-colored head, and it has a very dark and black appearance, but this is actually a brilliant ruby red, under direct sunlight. There is quite a bit of thick, whipped cream-like lacing left behind. The aroma is of sweet, deep-roasted barley and a touch of coffee. Taste is of sweet, astringent, coffee-like barley, background charcoal, chocolate powder, and just the slightest hop bitterness. Mouthfeel is medium and velvety, and Belhaven Black Scottish Stout finishes mostly dry, sweet, and rich. Overall, this is really enjoyable, and I score it most excellent. RJT

A crispy roasted flavor with chocolate notes, but a watery aftertaste. Color is almost black with a quickly fading white head.

500ml bottle from local shop. Pours a black-brown colour, foam biege head and aroma of roast malt, coffee. Taste is sweet biscuity roasted malt with chocolate, coffee and dark fruit notes. Smooth mouthfeel, medium bodied, medium carbonation, roast bitter finish. Quite OK.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Can. Pours a near-black color with almost no head on it. Nose has some nice roasty elements that you really expect from a stout, though nothing particularly unique. Taste is much the same, with a little bitterness coming through. Good, but nothing remarkable.

Can shared by Ken at Capitol Beer in Sacramento, CA. Pours dark brown/black with orange glints. Creamy light beige head. Chocolate aroma. Med body. Nice bitter chocolate flavor with a hint of coffee and just a little burnt malt. Very nice.

2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
Dark brown beer with a muddy, brown head. Aromas are of some roasted coffee and charred grains. Tastes of some watery, dark coffee, dark chocolate notes, burnt grains, and some unpleasant charred flavors. Bitter, smoky finish. The burnt bitter flavor lingers for far too long after the last sip. Not all that great.

Pounder can from Caponeís and Blue Dog. The nitro can pops loud and vigorously, just like a Scottish lass. The pour is deep jet black with 1-finger uniform eggshell head. This one looks like a fucking tuxedo, and is spectacular to the eyeballs. There are some ruby hues through direct light. The nose is Dark malty Wheaties, a lot like Celebrator. The taste is luscious, rich, malty, and a tad rauchy even, with finishing cacao, charred choc malts, rich oaty lactosy milk sugars, and a super smooth finish. Call the Nitro gasket a gimmick if you will, but it works, and this is a delicious beer, and a beer Iíll be looking to pair with Oliva Series V Maduro cigars.

Tap from a keg at Farmers Cabinet. Very dark ruby pour. Nice tight tan head. Lace. Dark caramel. Brighter feel than expected. Some coffee/chocolate/ashy notes but not overly distinctive or complicated. Still a very nice dark session beer.
