Belhaven Black Scottish Stout really is something completely different. Bursting with roast coffee and chocolate flavours, this is a truly genuine and premium pint. Brewed using pure Scottish water and a unique blend of Scottish triple malts sourced from the finest locally grown barley.

Dark brown beer with a muddy, brown head. Aromas are of some roasted coffee and charred grains. Tastes of some watery, dark coffee, dark chocolate notes, burnt grains, and some unpleasant charred flavors. Bitter, smoky finish. The burnt bitter flavor lingers for far too long after the last sip. Not all that great.

Pounder can from Capone’s and Blue Dog. The nitro can pops loud and vigorously, just like a Scottish lass. The pour is deep jet black with 1-finger uniform eggshell head. This one looks like a fucking tuxedo, and is spectacular to the eyeballs. There are some ruby hues through direct light. The nose is Dark malty Wheaties, a lot like Celebrator. The taste is luscious, rich, malty, and a tad rauchy even, with finishing cacao, charred choc malts, rich oaty lactosy milk sugars, and a super smooth finish. Call the Nitro gasket a gimmick if you will, but it works, and this is a delicious beer, and a beer I’ll be looking to pair with Oliva Series V Maduro cigars.

Tap from a keg at Farmers Cabinet. Very dark ruby pour. Nice tight tan head. Lace. Dark caramel. Brighter feel than expected. Some coffee/chocolate/ashy notes but not overly distinctive or complicated. Still a very nice dark session beer.

Can. Low but lasting and very good looking dense creamy off-white head. Veyy dark red brown, almost black, body. Weak and mild roasted malt liquorice aroma. Sweet and a bit thin bodied creamy coffee roasted malt liquorice flavor without much hops bitterness. Low carbonation. Long mild coffee finish. More tasty than expected with such a low alcohol percentage.

Bottle @ Epic Beer Fest Denver 2013. Pours a dark reddish brown appearance with a tan head. Somewhat roasty, herbal/earthy hoppy, a touch burnt aroma. Smooth, fairly roasty, light coffee, slightly bitter earthy flavor. I enjoyed this one.

Nitro tap at Fermentation. Black pour with a creamy white head. Faint chocolatey nose with roasted malts. Thin palate with roasted flavors and touches of ash. Eh.
