2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 7/20
I swear that UK brewers must possess some clandestine and ancient malting secret when it comes to Stouts. I don’t know how a shade of blacker that is blacker than black exists but it does. The head is a creamy wonder of beige existence, traces of its earlier whereabouts evident from the thickly coated inside. Well, that was the good part. This likely otherwise quite tasty beer is ruined by stinging metallic notes in both smell and taste, rising above what I imagine are rather enjoyable dark chocolate and coffee notes. The resulting brew is a slightly watery (despite creamy and thick appearances) onyx pour with soft carbonation and a truly annoying taste of kissing a robot. I would be intrigued to try this on tap close to the source. From a can, no way man. Luckily I have another can in case this one was a dud. Fingers crossed.

Pint can--> pint glass. Strong notes of smoked hickory and even mesquite. Nice creamy head that stays, and caramel dark brown sandy caramel washout as it settles in the glass-similar to Guinness.

Absolutely great foam on the head ! Really thin beer with light bitternes which is almost flat. All those features makes beer quite drinkable even in great amounts.

Can from Yamaya for 400 yen bought in honor of Stout Day. A great looking nitro pour gives you a pitch black beer with a dense creamy light beige long-lasting head of foam. It has a mild savory coffee aroma with roasted oats accents. A great soft silky cream-like mouthfeel. The taste is sweet coffee, a bit of lactose, some roastiness and toffee notes in the finish. It is quite a refined flavor that seems to have been paired down to it’s essence. Not that complex but well put together delivering a stout with no muss nor fuss.

On tap at NDHQ Sgts/WOs Mess. Opaque black body with a lasting, thick, beige creamy head. Well balanced malty aroma with hoppy and some roasted cereals hints. Its decent malty/hoppy taste carries some woody and roasty notes. Ends with a good bitter/roasty finish. Decent Stout.

Puszka. Kolor: czarny z rubinowymi refleksami widocznymi pod światło. Piana: nienaganny wygląd stout’a w wysp brytyjskich; kremowa, brudno biała, niezbyt obfita paina, z fantastycznym lacingiem. Aromat: orzechy, chlebowo, słodowo, ciemne aromaty, stylowo.
