3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Currently drinking while typing. Aroma is very faint for a Stout, chocolate, coffee, toastiness and a Greene King kind of vibe to it. It pours with a small beige head (which was an effort to achieve in the first place) and a clear red/brown/black hue to the beer. Taste is relatively similar to the aroma, with the toasty chocolates and coffee, short and sharp with nothing too exciting and low bitterness. In the mouth this beer feels watery and thin with tingly carbonation on the tongue; with a stout you expect a full body, a creamy texture and smooth carbonation, this has none of these really. Overall, it’s an ok beer, but personally I wouldn’t call it a stout. I won’t be rushing back to this any time soon.

3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Clear, black body with a deep red hue topped by a creamy, light-brown head with average size and lifetime that laces the glass well. Moderate to faint aroma with dark caramel and roasted notes. At first I found the aroma a bit unclean, I though I found some sweet butter-like notes in the back, together with some cooked corn. Now that I’ve tasted the beer I can’t find any traces of these notes in the flavour, so I might have been tricked by the general sweet maltiness of the beer? Or is it just my natural scepticism against clear bottles? Still, I prefer to rate the aroma before I taste the beer, hence the rather low Aroma score. The taste is light sweet and light bitter, with a very, very faint hint of metal in the first few sips. The flavours are dominated by chocolate, dark caramel and roasted notes. I also get some hints of coffee and fruits/berries. Medium body, dry texture, soft carbonation. A nice, more-ish and drinkable beer (let’s forget about the butter).

Vandig avslutning. Et engangskjøp.

13.03.2013. 0,5l Bottle. Rimi Karmsundgata, Haugesund. Black colour with off-white head. Aroma of dark malts. Notes of dry bitter chockolate, and maybe some caffee. Very plessant beer with good carbonation and a very soft flavour. Aftertaste is dry bitter and leaves a mouthfeel of dark malts and soft camp fire.

Firstly, for a dry Celtic Stout, this really has to be my favorite. Tasted it back to back first time in NYC on draft and it is absolutely stellar. All of my fellow american stout lovers, please go into this beer realizing that it is, in fact, not an imperial, viscous, mess but a surprisingly light, refreshing, roasty stout with a nice coffee note and an ABV that sets one up to knock them down.
I would buy this again and again.
