Belhaven Black Scottish Stout really is something completely different. Bursting with roast coffee and chocolate flavours, this is a truly genuine and premium pint. Brewed using pure Scottish water and a unique blend of Scottish triple malts sourced from the finest locally grown barley.

Can with draught flow. Amazing creamy head and black color. Slightly roasted aroma. Chocolate notes. A bit sweet with light bitter finish. Some sour notes. Better than Guinness.

Can @ home. Black with a large beige head. Taste is of roasted malts, chocolate and a touch of fruits. Very smooth with a slightly dry aftertaste. The cask version is sightly better than it is on can, but despite its watery texture it is quite drinkable. This is IMHO as good as a Guinness.

Pours out in a deep black colour with low head and medium body. Aroma of torf and malt. Taste of intense malt, woods, dark grains and torf. Very earthy and leathery finish. Okay but just not that nice.

500 mL bottle in a mixed pack from LCBO shared by my bro served cold in a tulip glass. Deep ruby black with a thin tan head. Tight when cold, a little roasted malt character, a little vinous, wood notes, a wee bit of molasses, stark. Medium body, fairly lively carbonation. Similar to the nose with some roasted barley, somewhat vinous, very light wood and fruitiness, a little molasses, doesnít offer much; dry with minimal bitterness and a vinous, slightly roasty finish.

UPDATED: JUL 25, 2015 Can 440ml and Bottle 500 ml. Taki sobie to stout. owszem nuty palone wyczuwalne i glebia czerni takze. Piana w systemie cream flow takze moze byc i utrzymuje sie do konca picia piwa. Ale jakies w koncowce delikatne nie pozostawia dlugiego goryczkowego posmaku, nawet ta palonosc szybko mija wraz z przelknieciem. Czekolada na zakonczenie.

Bottled, 500ml from Tesco, Dingwall, Highlands, Scotland. Black with light brown head. Initially there is a good roasty, malty note, some liquorice some coffee hints, however; the beer is quite thin on the palate with a light tinny note. The overall effect is of a slightly unbalanced beer but still quite drinkable.

Black pour, with ruby hues, and a small white head. Sweet malty aroma, nice roasted malts, sweet caramels, and some nice cereals. Lively carb, some body. A nice sweet roasty amlt finish, with a medium bitterness, and some subtle piney hops.

Bottle from a Belhaven sampler pack from the LCBO. Very dark ruby body - verging on black - with a small tan head. Aroma of deeply roasted malt - almost charred - with notes of coffee, treacle, and perhaps Iím imagining it, but a wisp of peat smoke. Medium-thin body, more porter-like than stout-ish. Nice roasty flavour, with moderate dark sugar sweetness at the top, a quickly drying middle, and a quick but noticeable hit of hop bitterness to wrap things up. Iíd like more body, but otherwise, a decent pub stout.

aroma: chocolate, coffee, a bit poor a lot like classic guiness; appearance: black, clear, white foam, just perfect; taste: light sweetness, medium bitterness, lightly sour, good, but not intense; medium body, oily feel, soft carbonation, bitter, pretty good; I liked it far more than classic guinness draught, although Iíve been drinking a lot of better dry stouts. still, giving the price itís pretty good choice.

UPDATED: OCT 7, 2015 Keg @ Junction Inn, Southampton. Black, smaller head than its more famous cousins. Not much to the aroma unfortunately. Bit of barley and liquorice but very very faint. Taste is refreshingly sweet/sour. More tang than Iím used to in a keg stout, so thatís nice. Not much in the way of haecceity but refreshing nonetheless.
