COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Belhaven Black Scottish Stout really is something completely different. Bursting with roast coffee and chocolate flavours, this is a truly genuine and premium pint. Brewed using pure Scottish water and a unique blend of Scottish triple malts sourced from the finest locally grown barley.

From Tesco. Dark ruby appearing black with a dense, subsiding cappuccino top. Aroma of yeast extract, molasses and charcoal. Pleasantly toasty little beast with a schwarz-like, thinly-spread Marmite and black chocolate character. Well-roasted afters. A bit flimsy but decent.

1/2 pint @ Moulin. Looks just like Guinness, smells slight, collared. A bit sweet. Not too "roasty" of a taste, I like it a TAD better than Guinness.

Tap at Leith beer co. Black with a proud tan head. Fairly muted aroma, caramel, coffee and chocolate. Similar flavours with a light charred smokiness. Smooth and clean. Perfectly reasonable stout

Draft at Bay Horse, Marygate, York. Slightly sweet roasty aroma. Opaque black with full creamy tan head. Thick, creamy mouthfeel with a slight sweetness and a touch of black patent bitterness.

50cl bottle from Tesco. Deep ruby, almost black, with a thin cream head; rather stewed aroma - malts and some weak hops; light, fruity, malt flavour that’s rather sweet; with a touch of smoke and some treacle toffee to finish. Not very exciting.

500 ml bottle, cellar cool. Its not black but a beautiful deep tawny red with a thin clinging tan head. Aroma of malt loaf and farmyard. Medium bodied, medium sweet, creamy mouthfeel, chocolatey flavour, fruity finish. Lovely robust dark beer.

Cask, half pint, at Drum & Monkey. Ruby-dark body. Thin layer that laces well. Roasted, almost peaty, dark malts to the nose. Flavour of dark malts offset by dark fruits. Malt-fruity, bittersweet finish. Well bodied considering the abv. (Glasgow, 11.04.2012).

Solid black with a faint red tint. Chocolatly roastness and berry on the nose. Creamy light body. Taste of chocolate, roasted malt with light taste of dark berries. Becomes a bit thin.

On tap @ the Haymarket. Pours opaque black with a nicely proportioned cream head. The nose has chocolate and cream and there is more of that on the taste. Good palate - long, smooth and a creamy. almost elegant finish. Overall, surprisingly good for a big regional brewer.

Nitro-keg at the Fountain, Gornal. Pours black with a large head. Aroma is some roast and berries. Taste has a little roast with some coffee in the finish. Got a bit more sweet and smokey as it warmed.
