GoufCustom (1649) - HONG KONG - APR 7, 2016

500 ml clear bottle bought at YATA in MOKO, Mong Kok.

Clear, deep Cola blackish brown colour; One finger head and beige foam which last for 1 minute; Small sticky lacing and active carbonation; Sweet aroma of dark malt, with initial strong skunk (2 minutes), strong roasted coffee beans, double cream, caramel, light chocolate, sugar, earth and grass; Close to medium sweet taste of dark malt, with strong roastness, nuts, metallic, iced coffee, dark chocolate, milk, sugar, very light tartness, earth, yeast, fair lemon, light bitter hops and grass; Mid to light body. Quite slick palate; Mouth feel is good dark maltyness in a watery but smooth background. Very roasty with light peanuts. Good dose of iced coffee with flashes of dark chocolates. Moderate sweetness, light earth and fair lemon to round. Nice!... Hoppiness is initial skunk, earth, and grass in nose. Light lemon, light earth and grass in taste. Bitterness is light for an abrupt, low astringent coffee malty finish; Fairly dry after taste, Easy and light sweet to mouth.

Comments: How I hate clear bottle! Despite the inevitable light struck, this one is full of nutty, neat ice-coffee roastyness in aroma and taste, coupled with smooth body and fair creamy feel, this would be a nice choice for a relaxing evening. Better have it on tab than with a sorry clear bottle, though!

Very dark brown color, almost black, average sized tan head that instantly disappeared. Aroma of malt, caramel. Pretty empty and disappointing. Taste of milk chocolate, roasted malt, caramel, dark fruit. Light to medium body, average carbonation. Thin, watery and far from exciting.

W aromacie głównie kawa zbożowa z lekkim karmelem, ponadto trochę palonych słodów. Piwo barwy czarnej z rachityczną, szybko opadającą pianą. W smaku w/w kawa zbożowa, trochę czekolady, lecz wszystko to dopiero jest zaznaczone w finiszu. Zbytnio wodniste, ale bez większych wad.

16 oz can @ Party Town / Florence KY --- Aroma of roasted malt. Clear dark ruby black color, creamy smooth 2" beige head, curtain of lace. Taste is similar to Guinness - velvety smooth full-bodied malt that glides through a lightly carbonated swallow to mild hops at the end. Super smooth, really easy to drink, satisfying. Excellent light Stout.

This beer has a good appearance, but it’s flavour is weak. We expected a little more taste, and more persistance.

On tap. Looks great darj black with a finger of creme head. Fluffy silky body. Taste is odd. Slightly malty coffee bitterness but also tobbaco or unpleasant lacto. Maybe it’s just been in the keg too long. Not as good as Guinness.

From the bottle - Into a Belhaven pint. Ruby black and radiant with a towering plume of tannish foam. Head lasts the length and adds a needed creaminess to the palate. Weedy and grassy, seaweed, umami notes on the nose rounded off by ample lashings of Vegemite™ and Bovril™. Powdery, chalky finish. Mild smoke and ash with a sweet, toffee malt front. A tad of milk chocolate adds just a little bit of character. Drinkable but sits heavy in the stomach
Can - Into a Belhaven pint. Brownish, ruby black with your typical nitro foam. Aroma is low but hints at ash, Vegemite™ and seaweed. Watery but smooth as expected. Sweet front, nutty with a hint of ash, butter and kelp. Long malty finish. Actually more sessionable than the bottled version but much thinner. (50cL bottle (BBE 03/16) & 44cL can (BBE 06/16), BIDBeer)

Can. Dark pour with a slight reddish hue, thick creamy tan head, classic nitro pour. Aroma is slightly roasty, very mild with hints of chocolate, heavy cream and dark fruits. Taste is also a little roasty, some light chocolate and biscuit notes, hints of dark fruit. Thin and a little watery, not much carbonation.
