(bottle, as Black Scottish Stout, 4.2% abv) Clear, ruby colour with a beige mid-sized foamy head. Mildly roasted and earthy malty aroma with notes of chocolate and Crème brûlée. Moderately roasty bitter and mildly sweet flavour, light bodied with a moderate carbonation. Roast-malty and slightly earty taste with notes of dark chocolate, mocha, caramel and a hoppy touch in the background, leading into a dry and moderately bitter and roasty finish. A likeable Stout. 31.VIII.12

On tap at the Beer House Chicago in Lombard, IL., and nitro pushed to a flight glass, displaying a clear, ruby highlighted, brown tone, after the cascading show, with a persistent, mousse-like layer of light brownish tan head foam, and curtainy cling to the lacing. The aroma was a tough read past the stubborn foam, but finally offered some roasted, mocha notes, subtle smoke, light caramel sweetness, and smooth malt. Light to medium bodied, with soft carbonation, and some subtle creaminess to the mouthfeel, the flavor was similar notes as the nose, but even less pronounced, with a bit of thin, watery texture. Quite drinkable, with a mild, Guinness-like nature that was a familiar blast from the past.

Pours very dark, almost opaque red/brown. Very thin head and lacing, head quickly dissipates leaving a thin, even lacing. Carbonation is almost flat and palate is watery. Similar to Guinness with a sweeter finish and less complexity and mouth feel. 440ml/14.9oz can. Gifted from a friend.

Bottle at Winking Lizard. Pitch black pour with a medium foamy tan head that diminishes steadily to a film. Strings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of roast malt, chocolate and slight coffee. Light-bodied with a roasty malt and chocolate character, with some earthy coffee in the background. The finish is sweet with a malty aftertaste. Decent overall.
