Tasted this excellent Imperial Stout at the Paisley Beer Festival in May 2009. Cask, handpump dispense. Dull jet black in colour with a thin off white head which quickly disappeared. Superb long intense aroma of roast malt, cocoa powder, molasses, soft highland toffee and vanilla pods. Luxurious double cream texture to the mouthfeel and no lacing. Dark complex malts give full rich flavours of buttery treacle toffee, Belgian chocolate, maple syrup and flat American cream soda. Any hints of hop resins must have been whipped out during the brewing process as no bitterness detected. Smooth seductive sweet velvet notes of creamy mocha and vanilla pods slide to a velvety finish. Belhaven back on form with this cracker and my second favourite after the sublime 90/. You need to try this on cask, it is simply superb and one of the best Imperial Stouts out there.

Cask at aberdeen beer festival 09 ...Black thin tan bubbly head ... smokey roast malts nose ... rich roast and some toffee ... malts and chocolate.
