light to medium brown color, clear. stale ash, dead skin, tire rubber, garbage can nose... yup. putrid and rancid flavor, lightly acidic, incredibly stale and unflavorful. i’m guessing spoiled keg.

On tap @ Purple Pig in Chicago. Opaque brown, finger-thick dense tan head. Aroma is sweet chocolate with oaky vanilla nuances, maybe some tobacco. Bitter chocolate, hard roast, coffee, vanilla flavours. Less sweet than the nose suggests. I’m surprised this scores so low! It isn’t foul by any stretch, pretty solid strong stout-- maybe not quite imperial in character/complexity or ABV, but it was a decent brew.

Tap at Saint Ex. Dark chestnut color, small off white head. Aroma of peanuts. Thin body, caramel and not much else. Weak.

Draught - nitro. Black with brown hue, small tan head. Aroma is mild but has chocolate, fruit, apples and molasses. Taste is more powerful and has lots of chocolate cake, vanilla, bitter and roasted finish that is similar to light coffee bite.

Pitch black pour. Little aroma. Mostly dark malts. Taste has a lot of dark heavy malts. Not a lot of coffee or chocolate which I was hoping for but not bad. Founders blows this away though.

hold your breath, come with me .. this was a bit of a disappointment, i guess i am spoiled on US impy stouts ... good roast quality ... low foam .. great label (tap handle) ... honestly a bit boring, easy to drink, but wheres the beef, no real uniqueness ... i am really happy i tried it but what else ...

On tap at Flying Saucer. Has a dark brown with a creamy light tan head that lasts awhile. The aroma is a roasted malt with chocolate and smoke. Good sticky lacing along the glass. The taste is a roasted coffee and caramel. Easy to drink a good imperial stout from Belhaven.

Tasted at the Flying Saucer in 2007. Black in color with agood sized beige. Aroma is of dark chocolate, prunes, and light roast coffee. Taste is of coffee, roasted malt and dark fruits.

Crosling (1861) - Loveland, Colorado, USA - JUL 8, 2008
Appears brown in the glass, with a spider-like, wispy and thin head that is nearly white, maybe a little tan. Aroma is mainly dominated by dark fruits (grapes, plums, apples), but also has some very light notes of cocoa, caramel and cookie. Flavor is pretty well balanced for a dead, filtered beer. Dark fruits, with hints of caramel, cocoa. It’s a fairly decent beer.

Tap at Falling Rock. Dark black beer with thin tan head. Strong bitter chocolate and sour flavors. Very roasty. More thin than I was expecting for an imperial stout.
