50 cl bottle. No yeast in bottom. Dark brown colour with a nice white head. Little hoppy, caramel and spicy aroma. Sweet flavour with notes of malt, caramel and hints of smoke. Little too sweet for me, but very nice balance and with a lot of taste.

(Bottle) Pours dark/golden amber, with tall pretty stable head. Sweet vinous malty taste, with notes of smoke and whisky. A fairly good beer imo..

UPDATED: FEB 8, 2006 Although I do not want to know about smoked beers right now, I have to admit that it was a very good one, but very alcoholic, it was nice and black, and also creamy.

(Bottle 50 cl) Dark amber colour with a rather tall and stable head. Spicy aroma and spicy flavours. Caramelish sweetness - actually very sweet - withoutout much bitterness to level things out. Some smoky whisky notes. 191002

Another bottle iv seen many times but never actually tried. Aroma is minimal to start with but as it warms becomes nicely malted and little sweetness. Taste is peaty which warms to become a fruity peatiness with a wet finish. Rather better than expected and more of a scotch ale than a bitter.

Engelsmann (651) - Copenhagen, DENMARK - SEP 14, 2005
Bottled. Pours a clear amber, with a white head. Aroma is sweet malty, Lots of caramel, and some hops. Taste is sweet, caramel, but with a nice bitterness to offset the sweetnes. Nice beer

scotty (1088) - SCOTLAND - AUG 12, 2005
A fine looking ale, clear with a tight off-white head, good steady bead. Light fresh nose, and a well balanced palate. Soft malt dominates, with bitter hops appearing on the longish finish. Admittedly not Belhavens best, but a good sound brew nevertheless. (Wasn’t this brewed by Tennents a long time ago?..the label is the same...or am I drinking too much?)

clear brown, fluffy off white head. aroma of earth, caramel, hay, malt and a chalky note. sweet malt starts mapley with butter and mild cocoa. earthy and watery finish.

GarethYoung (1110) - Glasgow, SCOTLAND - JUN 1, 2005
[bottle from ASDA] pours a deep red with a moderate head. nose is fruity, but this is hidden behind a heavy butterscotch aroma which isnt pleasant. weak body, not great stuff.

Bottled. Malty flavor. Not bad but not great either. Dark ruby color with little head.
