3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
UPDATED: APR 24, 2011 Aroma: at first, it’s a little bit creamy. oak, wood in general, hoppy bitter.
Appearance is solid, almost no head except for right after you’ve poured it; I nice creamy head stays on for a while. Overall colour is very nice. Very clear liquid. I liked the old belhaven bottles way more than these new slim ones.
Taste is surprisingly complex, but not strong with character. An oaky, hoppy bitter taste, with a creamy character and a special taste that I can’t really point out. It’s something of a liquorice character, but with a bit more "stinging", very interesting indeed. I have to find out what this taste is.. isn’t that strongly present in the aroma. The liquid itself is very clear and light, doesn’t really take control over your mouth. A little bit creamy, but that comes with the taste. Carbonation is low and fits nicely with the ale. The finish is bitter in a nice spicy way. Not the best from belhaven, but a very nice ale with special characters. Every bottle of this I have tasted has been a little bit different.

0.5L bottle, courtesy of Rune. Brilliant deep amber body, low fine-bubbled beige top. A light smell of peppery caramel and leafy hops. Taste has a sugary malt-sweetness with some apple notes, and a modest hop bitterness. Light to medium full. Sourish fruit tones in sweetish, light watery ending.

3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
500ml bottle. Pours dark copper with a full off-white head that dissipates quickly. Aroma of caramel malts and fruits. Taste is much of the same, stronger on the malts, weaker on the fruit, with a bit of hoppiness in the end. Light on the palate. An alright beer, very drinkable though not at these prices (four euros a bottle).

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottled. A nut brown coloured beer with a short-lived off-white head. The aroma has nuts and fruit and sweet malts. Fruit in the mouth with a tiny amount of nuttiness. Definitely malt dominated sweetness.

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bottled, 500ml from Burg Bieren, Ermelo, Netherlands. Amber with white head. Are Belhaven having to use G.K raw materials & yeast, this has many of their trade mark flavours. Slightly musty, tea like yeasty note, autumnal fruit and a fungal hint. I wouldn’t be really surprised if this was produced in Bury St Edmunds.
