Beershine (5219) - The Sunshine State, Florida, USA - APR 12, 2011
Pours red as a Scottsmanís hair with a thick foamy beard. Worty aroma evocative of fields of highland malted barley. Juicy and chewy at the same time, the palate has a touch of fruity acidity to round out the long doughy finish. Anise mingles with brown bread and brown sugar throughout the unapologetic malty body, which is moreish.

Bottle from Dobbies garden centre Ashford. Only a few more of these Scottish pateurised beers to endure. Clear attractive chestnut colour with a thick beige head. Empty pasteurised beer aroma with some sweet toffee. Its a bit bland. Some odd spice malt on finish. Its fine but completely forgettable.

UPDATED: APR 24, 2011 Aroma: at first, itís a little bit creamy. oak, wood in general, hoppy bitter. Appearance is solid, almost no head except for right after youíve poured it; I nice creamy head stays on for a while. Overall colour is very nice. Very clear liquid. I liked the old belhaven bottles way more than these new slim ones. Taste is surprisingly complex, but not strong with character. An oaky, hoppy bitter taste, with a creamy character and a special taste that I canít really point out. Itís something of a liquorice character, but with a bit more "stinging", very interesting indeed. I have to find out what this taste is.. isnít that strongly present in the aroma. The liquid itself is very clear and light, doesnít really take control over your mouth. A little bit creamy, but that comes with the taste. Carbonation is low and fits nicely with the ale. The finish is bitter in a nice spicy way. Not the best from belhaven, but a very nice ale with special characters. Every bottle of this I have tasted has been a little bit different.

OleR (4804) - Oslo, NORWAY - FEB 22, 2011
0.5L bottle, courtesy of Rune. Brilliant deep amber body, low fine-bubbled beige top. A light smell of peppery caramel and leafy hops. Taste has a sugary malt-sweetness with some apple notes, and a modest hop bitterness. Light to medium full. Sourish fruit tones in sweetish, light watery ending.

500ml bottle. Pours dark copper with a full off-white head that dissipates quickly. Aroma of caramel malts and fruits. Taste is much of the same, stronger on the malts, weaker on the fruit, with a bit of hoppiness in the end. Light on the palate. An alright beer, very drinkable though not at these prices (four euros a bottle).
