3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 14/20 EithCubes (3336) - GERMANY - MAY 25, 2012
Clear glass bottle. A beautiful gradient red-amber body with a soapy beige head. Nose holding some caramel and toffee, a little gritty and a little nutty. Smooth, lightly crisp attack smooths out some more, reveals a beautiful, absolutely beautiful yeasty-bready flowering. Light bitterness, relatively dry, hops and a little hard water, some mild tobacco and ash. A nice woody character. Faint fruit is a little oblique. I’m probably more fascinated by this than most, but today it’s layered and deep.

2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 ClubGonzo (1950) - Bergen, NORWAY - JAN 6, 2012
Bottle. Deep coppery body, small off-white head. Nose is caramel, pale malts and hints of nuts. Taste is lightly roasty malts, grains and hints of caramel and astringent herbs. Watery palate. A bit of a letdown; the label spurred me to believe that this was a Scotch Ale. It clearly wasn’t.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 BeerCast_Rich (1194) - Edinburgh, SCOTLAND - AUG 25, 2011
[500ml bottle] Pours a dark caramel colour with a very generous white head. Rich, toffee aroma – plenty of sweetness on the nose. May not exactly be ’poetry in a glass’ as claimed, but the malt balance is good enough, and although quite sweet, there’s no sickly molasses-heavy aftertaste that befuddle many of its contemporaries. Burns was fond of ’reaming swats’, and I think he would approve of this one [25012009]
