3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Balanced sweetness, warming, mild malt taste, with very nice aftertaste. Palate is somewhat alcoholic in its warmth (despite the mere 4,2%), with an slight (and very british) hoppiness - plus some slight notes of burnes sugar. I like this beer. Once used the name of this brew an alter-ego for an course-required test at undergraduate level, without knowing that the course professor was, in fact, a decendent of (the real life) Robert Burns... So bevare!

2.1 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20
This isnít a bad ale and maybe Iím being to harsh, but after drinking the more complex 80 schilling I found this to be very boring. Iím sure had I done it the other way around, I wouldnít be so tough. Really should try the 80 schilling instead though.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
Clear 500ml bottle: poured into a UK pint sleeve on 27th Nov 13.
Looked good: nice mahogany reddy brown body with a thin but full tanned covering. Clean and clear with carbonation bubbles rising throughout the tasting.
Sweet malts ruled the nose and taste: treacle, toffee and caramel coming through in that order.
The body isnít thin, but it hasnít got the depth to carry the sweetness very well, seems a little unbalanced and one dimensional because of that.
OK, promises so much in looks and smell, but lacks a hop backbone and oomph.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Clear dark copper with short off-white head and lacing. Malty aroma has wood, nuts, bit caramel and hay. Hops under this. Light to medium body, semidry and slightly bitter, finish dries bit, low carbonation, soft and thin feel, more fruits than in aroma. Needs more body but flavors are ok.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle. This is a classic bitter with a good malty flavor and just enough hops to keep it interesting.
