Gypsy19 (464), Sacramento County, California, USA Jun 29, 2009 Pours a deep amber with a large, fluffy head that recedes slowly. Aroma is of molasses, maple, a little nutty. Flavor is of chestnuts, a little brown sugar, and lemon. Cardboard too. Mouthfeel is full, with nice carbonation throughout. Overall, good minus. noompa (130), Chicago, Illinois, USA Jun 23, 2009 12 oz. bottle (2009) in a shaker; pretty straightforward bitter. Pours a nutty brown/amber w/ nutty and malty aromas; flavor is standard for an English bitter (sorry if that is unhelpful); lacks too much sophistication, but would make for a great session brew; wait for this one to warm up a bit. gaffandbleed (12), California, USA Jun 18, 2009 slick feel, lively carbonation, earthy smell and taste, tan head, sparkling brown ale.
Good taste. Not too complex. No lingering after taste. Not great but better than average. ogivlado (2870), Zagreb, Croatia Jun 16, 2009 Bottled(355ml). -Darker amber coloured, small off-white head, dusty light grainy nose. Low carbonation. Toasted malt, caramel and slight grainy with notes of spices and fruits. Dry nutty finish. Doggythedog (1310), Split, Croatia Jun 14, 2009 Bottled both as 80/- and Scottish Ale (argh) at the Kaledonia in Budapest. Poured a lovely dark alber/coppery body with a persistant small thick white head. Light, subtle grainy malty notes, noted orange (80) and grass (SA) as well. Light, subtle earthy maltiness, grainy, sweetish, with a persistant bitterish aftertaste and even a touch of acidity (80). Clean and drinkable but lacking. Might be overrating it a little. HonkeyBra (1022), Lemont, Illinois, USA Jun 12, 2009 Cascading guinness like pour, which becomes a brown color, thick nitro white head. Huge lacing. Aroma of stale malt and brown sugar. Bland cereal flavor, a bit sweet and watery. Nitro makes it smooth, but there’s no flavor. Slipstream (628), USA Jun 8, 2009 Brown pour. Malty aroma with a touch of hops and cheese. Malt and cereal flavor dominates, and there is a touch of roastiness and cheese. Pretty smooth going down, but it could use some more robustness. I used to think this was a first rate Caledonian brew, but not any more. It is pretty good. Stefano (1222), Esbjerg, Denmark May 27, 2009 Pours deep golden colour with a long-lasting head. Bread and toffee were clear in the aroma. Bitter, malty taste with some sweetness. Spicy hops in the finish. Easy to drink beer.
