goozen (1061), Leiden, Netherlands May 12, 2008 Tap at Harbourlights, Noordwijk, The Netherlands: Red coloured ale with an subtle caramel taste and some roasted taste. Bhops (329), Dallas, Texas, USA May 9, 2008 bottle. an old favorite beer. Not much of a head. Well balanced with nice slightly burnt malt flavor with a mild hop finish. Dacrza (245), Great Meadows, New Jersey, USA May 2, 2008 Solid orange body with solid half-inch head that smooths somewhat evenly in a Samuel Smith pint glass... malts and hops act in accordance; smooth and pleasant;... medium-bodied and effervescent; mellow and drinkable (by the lees!)...bitter hops at the teeth early.... biting with a hint of nuttiness and a slight smokiness... heavy... a solid, strong representation of what I’d expect from a Scottish bitter served in a pub... has a friendly feel throughout. taunusmies (276), Finland May 2, 2008 Pours deep golden colour with a reddish tint and with a long-lasting head. Bitter, malty taste with some sweetness, a hint of roastiness and grassy hoppy aromas. Quite smooth and light mouthfeel. Long, dry aftertaste with certain bitter elements. Sregnar35 (729), Rotterdam, New York, USA Apr 27, 2008 On tap at Mahars. Good solid session beer. Flavor was sweet and a bit biting like a scotch ale, but not nearly as strong. BlackDonald (1127), Boise, Idaho, USA Apr 20, 2008 GABBF 08 - This was boring! Didn’t really get much of a sample, after most of the head dissipated. Toasty maltiness, some cereal grains, and just a bit of spicy hops in the finish. Bland. spikester (602), Salem, Oregon, USA Apr 16, 2008 Poured brown with red tints from the 14.9 ounce "widget" can. Typical huge boiling head from that type of can. Good amount of lacing, some foam left in the bottom of the glass. My can said 5.2 % abv. which is higher than the ratebeer listing. First sip is sweet roasted malts with the bitter hops following. Nice dry finish. Overall a tasty brew. Cost was $2.29 US for the can. Nice occasional pleasure a bit pricey for frequent consumption. jezmez68 (332), Chesterton, Indiana, USA Apr 9, 2008 Brownish red, nice head. Taste is more malty than hoppy, but pretty balanced. Didn’t catch my attention like Smithwick’s, but still, an overall decent Scottish ale.
