440ml Can $8.99 4-Pack Binny’s Plainfield I don’t know why but this is my first go around with Belhaven’s Scottish Ale. The widget gives this beer that wonderful cascade effect. After it settles there’s a perfectly creamy two finger white head atop a clear copper body. The head will not fade on this one and it leaves great sheet lacing after each sip. A good looking beer for sure. The smell is appetizing but a little on the faint side for my liking. There’s notes of toffee and just a tiny touch of smokiness. There is also a nice balancing softly floral quality that I’m assuming is from the hop addition. Slightly minerally. Flavor is right in line with the aroma. The most dominant maltiness is toffee and the smokiness is slightly more pronounced in the flavor than aroma. As this one continues to warm the flavor does come across slightly more bold and pronounced. Super creamy mouthfeel with a coating feel. Semi dry finish with a lively tingle on the tip of the tongue. The widget gives this beer a great body. An easy drinking Scottish ale. The good balance keeps it going down easy and the semi dryness keeps you wanting more. For some reason this is the first time trying anything from Belhaven even though it’s easily available. This is a quality Scotch ale that is a joy to drink on these cold evenings. 12/12/07

Nitro can. Pours copper, decent head. Taste is much drier than I expected, but given the alcohol I’m not surprised. Nice little beer in the malt forward Scottish ale style. You won’t mistake this for a wee heavy, but this has the drinkability of a nice session beer.

This is great nutty full flavored beer that I don’t wanna put down. At first taste you can tell it’s a scottish ale and as you start drinking it more and more it becomes even better giving you more flavor and great mouthfeel as you go. It smells wonderful to compliment all of it’s other fine qualities.

Pours clear amber with a two-finger white head. Biscuity aroma with herbal hops. Somewhat vegetal. Hints of dark fruit. The flavor has more molasses, toffee, and smoke. Clean finish with very little hoppiness. Flavorful little session beer.

Dark amber pour, few big bubbles, medium sudsy head. Toasty sour malt & fruity aroma. Sweet and sour malt flavor - toffee, a little smokey, after a bunch of this you get a lot of corn adjunct taste. Weak carbonation, lightly sticky and buttery mouthful. I bet this is pretty good on tap or gotta try the nitro-can.

355 ml. Clear copper-brown with a medium-sized head that lasts well. Aroma is spicy, smoky molasses, fresh corn and root vegetables. Spicy corn, dry grain, bitter grass, and earthy molasses flavors meld well. Nearly medium bodied, slightly dry, and fairly smooth.

Nice red pour with a medium head that sticks around like a drunk on pfennig night. Nice full body with a creamy head that tastes like.......cream. This a fairly sweet beer with a great malt flavor and no hops. Very gulp-able.
