BelgianBeerGal (1276), Sabbatical in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA Sep 30, 2007 Nitro Can under the Scottish Ale label. Pours a creamy tan that takes minutes to clear of carbonation. Flavor of toffee and caramel. nice bitter. Cruzan59 (197), Lititz, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 21, 2007 12oz bottle at Annie Bailey’s, Lancaster, PA...pours cream soda brown...smell is mild, malty, sweet toffee-like...taste is of caramel and butterscotch...thin-medium mouthfeel...I passed this one up one night earlier at The Pressroom, but there it was the next night...I’m glad I tried it...good bitter, but unlike other bitters I’ve had before...bartender was way off telling me it was over 5 abv. MesandSim (5790), London, Greater London, England Sep 15, 2007 A Sim rate (on tap at the Flyng Saucer Memphis): Wheaty pils flavour with a similar aroma. Appearance is ok, but with great lace. That’s probably this beer’s most redeeming feature. It’s not that great. fordest (1954), Santee/San Diego, California, USA Sep 14, 2007 500 ml bottle. Golden copper color with a decent tight bubbled head. Aromas were very sweet and matly. Caramel, toffee, chocolate. Flavors fell off a bit with some more of the same, but a little less exciting than the aromas. Overall pretty good. BREWMUSKCLES (1062), New Jersey, USA Sep 12, 2007 the beer is dark brown. the flavor is mainly of an artificial type of smoke. this flavor overrides the tase of the beer acting as a major distraction. the beer is watery in body and yet still flavorful. his does not appeal to me. it is a little bit sweetish with some kind of nutty malt perhaps peaty thing going on. never been a winner in my book. the quicker the finish the better. cgarvieuk (4159), Edinburgh, Scotland Sep 11, 2007 Updated: Aug 27, 2009Bottle at home ... Brwon ... malt fruits nose ... bit too fizzy quite well rounded and balanced with lots of fruity malts.3.3
Bottle at Chris-Os Pre GBBF 09 tasting ... BBF 1994 ... copper ... sweet honey and toffee malts ... light toffee malt .3.4 BigBeer45 (676), Troy, Michigan, USA Sep 10, 2007 500ml Bottle: Pours a clear dark red copper with a off-white to tan thin head,
faint aroma of yeast, old wood-dirt-earthy fragrance, an aged aroma,
faint caramel and malt sweetness, faint wiskey wood fragrance (not a wiskey alcohol aroma),
taste of malt, some sweetness and caramel, light to medium carbonation,
mouth feel is a little thin but I do not believe this style is suppose to have thick mouth feel,
some creaminess that ends quickely with hop bite arriving on the scene,
has a small bite in the finish and finishes pretty dry, lots of flavor for a ale
with 3.9 alcohol. berkshirejohn (1771), Bracknell, Berkshire, England Sep 10, 2007 500ml bottle - labelled 80/- Export Ale.Copper coloured with an off-white head; apple aroma; big malty flavours, quite warming, developing a nutty finish. Well balanced and full of flavour despite the low ABV.
