Numenor (869), Richmond, Virginia, USA Mar 12, 2006 Golden borwn body with a light white head. Hops, peat, pine are in the aroma. Fruits and peats in the taste. A coffee like ending. Vatruvian (27), Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA Mar 8, 2006 bottle. Smallish creamy head with little lacing. Aroma of wet socks. Godd flavor true to scottish ales but nothing to remarkable. murawski (158), USA Mar 4, 2006 Belhaven has always been one of my favorite ales from the British Isles, which is why I was so surprised to find so many of fellow raters dogging on it. Come on . . . Belhaven is a classic! When I’m just not in the mood for a Guinness, Belhaven Ale comes to save the day. It’s like Guinness Lite; more of a medium-bodied ale, but still with the creamy head and indelible mouthfeel. For this long overdue rating, I had Belhaven on draft. Miniscule aroma, patented creamy head, smoky brown color, and that great bitter/malt flavor. Still one of my favorites, y’all. LearninBeer (195), Sterling Heights, Michigan, USA Mar 3, 2006 I didn’t rate the aroma - guess I’ll have to try it again. The head was small, off white and the lacing was fair and fully diminishing. The body was clear and the hue was Orange. The initial flavor was a light sweet, moderate acidic and the finish was a moderate acidic with an average finish. The body was light to medium with a dry texture. The carbonation was lively and the finish was metallic. kyzr (1120), Belgrade, Montana, USA Feb 22, 2006 Good dark color, with nose of smoke and toasted malt. Flavors of the same, with a touch of hops on the finish. StigJensen (5), Denmark does not count Feb 18, 2006 When I opened the beer and poured it into the glass, my anticipations were high. It has a beatiful dark color and smells nice.
However the taste is not to my.....taste.
It has a clear aftertaste of smoke, which is not something I enjoy. Also I find it to bitter. All in all not a beer for my taste. MrBeer (276), Erie, Pennsylvania, USA Feb 16, 2006 Had this in a 12oz bottle poured into a glass. A very nice tasting beer. I really enjoyed it as it had a nice bitter flavor to it. Appearance was mild brown. BrideOfFrankenkitty (44), Illinois, USA Feb 12, 2006 Had this in the 16.9 oz pub can. It poured a really clear dark brown with a thick creamy ecru head. There was a hop presence in the aroma, and a woody bitter flavor that was smooth without a bite. The mouthfeel was creamy like the head.
