geekrobot (3), Colonia, New Jersey, USA does not count Feb 9, 2006 Creamy, smooth scottish ale. One of my favorites on tap. Trying to find cans in NYC/Central Jersey. hatchy (32), USA Feb 6, 2006 had on tap. pours red. very smooth and creamy tasting, with slight fruitiness and some sweetness. biermensch (64), USA Feb 5, 2006 Great appearance, then rapidly down hill. Peculiar flavor of smoke, peat, and nuts. I’m trying to write this from memory because I don’t want to take another sip. Seems complex and may be a worthy, well-crafted ale, just not my style. johndoughty (2150), cheslyn hay, West Midlands, England Feb 4, 2006 Bottled. Dark and quite smooth but no matter how hard I tried I couldn’t find any real flavour. Some would describe it as a subtle tate.I just think that its so bland its unbelievable. Earlier Rating: 10/17/2005 Total Score: 3.4 Golden brown with traces of malt.Pleasant Aroma on opening and poured with a creamy head.Had a reasonable body considering it fairly low strength. TheBeerLover (1019), DC Metro Area, USA Jan 25, 2006 Belhaven Scottish Ale pours to a deep caramel/light brown color with a nice, tan head, and a moderate carbonation. What I love about Scottish ales are that they are malt accented beers, you can really taste the malt with every sip. The nose on this beer is fantastic. Good sweet malt aromas, and just a hint of roast marry with some nice hop aromatics. The palate is a firm malt backbone of caramel malt. This beer has a very good sweet malt character but is not at all cloying, some nice fruity esters, and a slight bit of butter scotch flavor. This beer finishes as malty as it started, but with enough hop presence to balance. Really a great malt accented brew, but with just enough hop character to keep it in check. I love this beer, and I have turned a lot of beer lovers on to it. Match this beer with roasted chicken, or perhaps a hearty beef stew. This beer is great beer to sip on a cool fall evening.
ATOmemphis (200), Franklin, Tennessee, USA Jan 23, 2006 Updated: May 14, 2006500ml bottle found at the grocery. Dark Amber/brown with modest white head that lingers quite nicely. Malty aroma. Light caramel tones with a prominent nut flavor. Flavor is certainly good, but seriously, only 3.9%?? My can says 5.2% thanks...I came to drink. That’s less than a Guinness... Update: The nitro can pours a delicious looking beer and thus the looks rating has been updated. Marvelous looking creamy head. AdamSkillin (376), High Bridge, New Jersey, USA Jan 23, 2006 Nitro widget can, nutty brown color, nutty caramel notes, smooth nitrogeney perfect scottish bitter. Poured dark amber, Nice thick off-white head. Aroma was malty and sweet. Flavor again sweet, sugary, bready, and I picked up fruity hints (Apple?). Good carbonation, light bodied, smooth and easy to drink. Wasn’t aware it was only 3.9% abv. I also thought this was a scotch ale, only to find out just now that it’s a bitter. This would make the perfect session beer. No overpowering flavors or aromas.
