The nose is subtly sweet with some toast, light caramel malt, and something downright grapey? A little bit of fruit and I may even get a hint of wood and smoke. Rather creamy and smooth for a filtered and pasteurized bottle, but then again, it still feels slightly lifeless from the process. Sweet malt, more than I would’ve thought from the nose. Again, a bit grapey. Toast and caramel malt, some floral hops, some definitely woody smoke too. Creamy. A creamy finish to fruity to diacetyl. Toasty aftertaste going to slight floral hop bite, to smokey wood. Not a bad beer by any stretch, though the toast does bug me. kidmartinek (1003), austin, Texas, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Feb 19, 2008 Not much aroma, a little oil, gum, caramel, and burnt wood. It’s a dark, dark amber ale with a small, very thick foam head. It tastes lke peat, hickory, and whisky and has a very thick consistency. Good lacing n the glass. A heavy full flavored beer, with lite alcohol content. Quit a feat. erway (1002), Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Aug 28, 2003 Pours a nice dark tan color with an adequate head. The aroma is of freshly toasted bread and the typical smells of a heavily malted scottish ale. A bit similar to some of the brown ales of England but with a more appetizing maltiness. A very enjoyable session beer with a lot of flavor. Zeswaft (1000), Seattle, Washington, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 5/5 | 12/20 | Apr 11, 2006 My friend ordered one these and I scoped it out. Interesting appearance...dark but a soft nitro almost bleached white head. On the first sip of this I thought it tasted exactly a cigar. Texture was great. extremely smooth as expected from a nitro beer. blank (998), Washington, Washington DC, USA

| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Oct 22, 2007 Bottle. Pour was a dark amber color with an intense white to off-white head that hung around for quite a while. Decent lacing. The aroma was predictably malt-forward with some roasted nut to it. The flavor was malt, slight spice and nuts. Thin mouthfeel and a finished that lingered just a bit.
