This is one such beer... tasted great in the bottle, but when I poured it up to score it for appearance... poof. Slightly yeasty/biscuit flavor. Mouthfeel seemed a bit thin for this style. Pretty good, but I think I will stick with McEwan’s. Wait a minute... 3.9% vs. 8%? I KNOW I will stick with McEwan’s. Indra (2041), Prairie Village, Kansas, USA

Lightly buttery, toffeeish aroma, a moderate amount of spicy, herbal hop is present as well. Medium amber color, faintly hazy, with a slight but creamy head. Flavor is fairly well balanced, with a bit of fruity tanginess and lightly toasty, sweet malt. Finishes lightly bitter and hoppy. Effervescent on the palate, light-medium bodied. I prefer this over the St. Andrews. Volgon (2490), Manchester, New Hampshire, USA

Very smoky flavor combines well with the maltiness you would expect in a Scottish ale. Pleasant, but nothing special jpm8920 (152), Park Ridge, New Jersey, USA

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jun 20, 2003 initial hop tang gives way to a big, dry, malty (what motelpogo would call "dogfood") flavour, but - and this is the strange thing - with all the malt flavour there's no sweetness or thickness at all, it's all contained in a watery, drinkable package. very dry, spicy, peaty, malty finish. classy. lots of flavour for a sub-4%er. robertjm (418), El Cerrito, California, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Feb 21, 2007 Nice brownish color, with a tinge of orange to it. Pours a beautiful frothy cream-colored head, which disappates after a few minutes. Malty nose. Nice malty flavor as would be expected from a Scottish ale, and you have slight malt on the aftertaste. I generally like hoppy beers, but this is a nice change of pace. Would buy again. roder60 (1039), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA

Aroma is sweet and malty with a hint of some bitterness. Taste is very smooth and a good amount of sweetness. Very nice drinkable beer.
