Tap at Tylers Carrboro. Golden amber with a thick creamy white head. Nitro still looks nice to me even though I never drink nitro beers. Nose is light metal, grains, bitterness. Flavor is quite bitter, very messy, grainy, metallic malts. ugh.

From BA: Feb 2008. The bottle I am reviewing was obtained in France and is only 3.9% in alcohol (the same as the breweries normal best bitter). So it may not be the same beer everyone else has reviewed under this heading (on BA). Brown 500ml bottle, best before date ’rubbed off’. Poured into a Gordon Finest Gold thistle glass (twice). Using such a glass can only enhance the appearance of a beer and this one looks great, dark amber with a thick well formed foaming head. Peat aroma with hops and malts all jumbled up to give you a typical Scottish Ale type smell. Good roasted malt flavour, a fine clean finish with some sweetness arriving later. A lttile thin, but mine is 3.9% don’t forget, otherwise fine. A good beer overall, I think I’d fancy a 5.2% version.

Pours a clear and dark copper beer with an offwhite head. The aroma is malt and caramel. The flavor follows the nose. The palate is dry with sweetness. Overall a beer below average.

Aroma is rather light with some toffee and nutty notes. Flavour has nuts, sweetish malt, toffee and hints of caramel. A bitter with scottish twist.

Scipio (179) - Vernon Hills, Illinois, USA - MAY 3, 2012
Pours a copper with a mighty white head. Aroma is full and bready with hints of caramel. Sweeter taste, yet light and pretty bland. I can taste a bit of liquor as well, which is not necessarily good. It is extremely creamy and smooth. Not terrible, but not to good. I would look elsewhere for something lighter to quench your thirst.

Bottle. Pours light bronze and clear, with a medium creamy head with good staying power and lacing. Aroma of sweet malt, with caramel notes. Taste is of caramel malts, with sweetness and a lightly roasted note, perhaps even butterscotch. Mildly bitter finish, but obviously a malt-dominated beer. Creamy and satisfying in the mouth.

Onenote81 (899) - Winston-Salem, North Carolina, USA - APR 22, 2012
Originally reviewed: 6/23/08. Poured a deep reddish copper. Smell of sweet floral hops, and some bread. Had about a quarter inch head that dissipated quickly, but left a good film on the top for the rest of the drink. Tasted slightly bitter, but without a bitter aftertaste. Slight alcohol bite on tongue, no real sweetness noted. Sort of chemically/metallic aftertase.

Nitro pour playing saucer Nashville. Delicious beer right here. Brown copper appearance with a nitro white head. Sweet creamy malt taste with little bitterness at the finish. Slight Roasted caramel and dry malt. really a delicious creation.
