Malty and hoppy, we at Belhaven love the classic Scottish Ale and we’ve been brewing it longer than any of the other beers we produce. Delivering a sweet, smooth and creamy finish, Scottish Ale has a stunning ruby colour in the glass. Magic.

Strange grainy aftertaste, Slight hop aroma with malt forward taste. Would not drink this again.

Pours walnut brown and clear with a creamy hazel-white head that settles to a lumpy finger. This beer is a looker. Aroma is corn and nutty malts. Taste is lightly roasted caramel English malts and grains. Earthy nuttiness and a slightly hoppy bitter finish. Very drinkable and good enough for the style. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

33cl bottle thanks to allmyvinyl. Appearance - bright amber with a decent bit of lacing. Nose - toffee malt, maybe some porridge. Taste - toffee malt and a slight hint of redcurrants but you have to look for it. Palate - close to medium bodied, with a creamy texture and a finish that is somewhere between refreshing and cloying. Overall - a solid 80 shilling, I’d say.

330ml bottle from Beers of Europe. Aromas of toffee and malt, light red fruit. Taste is more of the same. Bit nondescript.

Had a can with a nitro widget. Poured very pretty, amber colored at the bottom, nitro bubbles moving down in a dark tan color, and a very fine creamy head on top. Aroma is solid but unremarkable. Taste is sweet and surprisingly fruity for a Scottish ale, but in a good way. Would definitely order again.

Great creamy head. Malty and caramel nose. Malty, caramel and faintly sweet well balanced. Light body but quite enjoyable. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pen & Paper Log (Jan 2011) Aroma - the aroma was pretty lean with a biscuity sort of malt, a little caramel as well. Apperance - is an amber color, with a 1" full white head. The head remains for a while. Taste - the taste is caramel malt, some light hops, and some tiny bits of fruitiness. Palate - body - is light, the texture thin, the carbonation average, and abrupt finish of a small bitter tingle. I bought this for our restaurant, and was surprised because the product I was used to came in cans, these in clear bottles, which I’m always leery of. Either way, I was expecting a similar product. This was rather disappointing. Try the can version, very good.

I have had the Scottish import version in a 16 ounce bottle. This is a very smooth beer with a nice head, carmel notes. My favorite scottish ale.
