Malty and hoppy, we at Belhaven love the classic Scottish Ale and we’ve been brewing it longer than any of the other beers we produce. Delivering a sweet, smooth and creamy finish, Scottish Ale has a stunning ruby colour in the glass. Magic.

Definitely not my favorite beer. The best characteristic of this beer is the pour. 16 oz self carbonating draught can pours in to a glass nicely!

500 mL bottle in a gift pack from LCBO, shared by my bro, served cold in a tulip glass. Clear deep copper with a fair light tan head. Lightly fruity, quite earthy, slightly nutty, very stark and British, a little roasted, some toffee notes; dry with a gentle bitterness and a fruity, British malt finish. Meh.

Draught can. Aroma: Lightly sweet caramel and a bit of earthiness, some tobacco comes through. Appearance: Rich, dark copper pour with nice clarity; solid foamy bone coloured cap of head. Flavor: Caramel and pipe tobacco; this really reminds me of the smell of my grandfather’s pipe in taste form. It might accurately be described as peat, but it doesn’t quite go that far for me. Palate: Medium body, oily texture, flat carbonation, abrupt finish. Overall: This was a pleasant surprise; didn’t expect much, but it’s a beer that connects to fond memories for me.

Can, at home. Muted aroma, maybe a bit of sweet malts and a touch of dried fruit. Super creamy, smooth palate. The flavor is straightforward but solid. Sweet malts, mildly bitter hops. A true pub style session ale. Simple, but really good.

Bottle from the LCBO. Clear, bright copper with a small just-off-white head. Aroma is simple but fresh and pleasant - caramel malt, slight nuttiness, mellow hops. Flavour is similarly balanced and enjoyable, with nice semi-sweet malt up front, some nut hull dryness, bit of bread crust, and a nice hoppy bite in the finish. A nice pint.

Clear amber pour, no head. Aroma of.............yup, still searching.............faint apples, wet paper, light cereals. Watery mouth feel, low carb. Finish is low on bitterness, slightly sour apple finish, wet paper, minerals. Tasted like they butchered this beer for the US market. By far the worst in the pack.

Clear bottle: poured a clear rich amber color with smallish off-white head. Grassy, bready malt aroma, very mild and pleasant. initial taste is light caramel, bready and slightly nutty in finish. balanced bitterness at end with a dry finish. Smooth drinking but a little over carbonated which gives a light body on the tongue. When degassed a little, it is very velvety on the tongue and easy to drink.

pours a mahogany color and very clear. aroma is sweet malts, luckily not skunked, no hops and a little bit of breadiness. taste is a slight hop bitterness up front but not overpowering and ends very sweet and bready. You can pick up the sweetness in the taste as well.
