Malty and hoppy, we at Belhaven love the classic Scottish Ale and we’ve been brewing it longer than any of the other beers we produce. Delivering a sweet, smooth and creamy finish, Scottish Ale has a stunning ruby colour in the glass. Magic.

0,33L bottle (rebranded version). Pours clear red copper with off white head. The head stays for a moment. Aroma is sweet caramel, fruits, and some English hops. Taste is very sweet caramel, dark fruits, and grass. Overall: drinkable, but nothing interesting.

Bottle from Tesco, Inverness (5.2%). It pours clear dark amber/brown with a tiny beige head. The nose is toasty, caramel, cola, dried fruits and faint smoke. The taste is toasty, earth, wood, spice, leather, cola and plastic with a dry finish. Medium body and fine, prickly carbonation. Very drying mouth-feel. A bit odd and I can’t say I enjoyed the experience!

A nice amber color on this one. Very smooth, not very complex. Some fruit comes through on the palate, with a semi-sweet finish.

2/4/2011. From bottle. Amber color with a white head. Caramel and malt aromas. Sweet flavors with primarily caramel. Not much excitement in this beer.

Poured from 440ml can into pint glass Appearance: pours a frothy, vigorous eggshell head which slowly settles with some delicate lacing. Color is a clear copper with little streaming carbonation. Aroma: whole wheat bread dough, yeast, floral and earthy hops. Mouthfeel: creamy, silky and light to medium bodied with a fairly wet finish. Flavor: a distinct nuttiness combines with caramel, medium roasted barley, and some pleasant herbal/earthy bitterness. Overall: very good, but the mouthfeel is a bit unusual.

From Lazy Dog. Pours a transparent amber with an insanely smooth cream colored head. Aroma is malty with a grassy/pine hint. Taste is very malty. Still that grass hint, but very subtle.

A clear golden orange pour. Big grainy malt aroma. Somewhat skunky but malty sweet nose. Smooth bodied, light caramel sweet malty. A bit skunky, tasty but mostly caramel malt sweetness with very little hops. Ok.

I think I found one of my new favourite beers. Pours a clear coppery color with about a finger of two of solid just slightly off-colour head with a decent retention. The aroma is extra nice. Some malts, some fruity smell but mostly biscuity and nutty notes, easily picked up by the nose. The taste is likewise, amazing. Starts sweet and is followed by nice biscuity body, slight bitterness towards the end, and finishes with a nice spicy finish. Easily drinkable, smooth, delicious. Just great.
