Malty and hoppy, we at Belhaven love the classic Scottish Ale and we’ve been brewing it longer than any of the other beers we produce. Delivering a sweet, smooth and creamy finish, Scottish Ale has a stunning ruby colour in the glass. Magic.

Clear bottle: poured a clear rich amber color with smallish off-white head. Grassy, bready malt aroma, very mild and pleasant. initial taste is light caramel, bready and slightly nutty in finish. balanced bitterness at end with a dry finish. Smooth drinking but a little over carbonated which gives a light body on the tongue. When degassed a little, it is very velvety on the tongue and easy to drink.

pours a mahogany color and very clear. aroma is sweet malts, luckily not skunked, no hops and a little bit of breadiness. taste is a slight hop bitterness up front but not overpowering and ends very sweet and bready. You can pick up the sweetness in the taste as well.

500ml bottle from the LCBO, belhaven gift pack. simple fruity ESB nose. light on flavour, high on carbonic acid. serviceable ESB. the worst of the 3 in the pack.

Poured from bottle into a pint glass. Aromas of grassy hops, brine, some nutty malts. It looks enticing, with a perfect coppery-red color and a fluffy white head. Lots of nutty, roasted malt flavor, some peaty, smoky flavor akin to Scotch, with the hops only there for structure and a biting finish. The finish is a bit strange for me, with a sharp dried-hop bite and a lingering smoky flavor. It does have a nice, creamy mouthfeel that counters the smoky flavor.

440ml can. Amber/brown pour with small lasting off white head. Aroma is soft and malty, almost nonexistent. Flavor is light caramel and malt. Kinda boring but velvety smooth...one and done.

UPDATED: OCT 28, 2013 0.5l bottle. Skunky aroma. Clear dark amber color, lame head. Unpleasant flavor with some malty, nutty and hoppy notes saving it from being the biggest disaster ever. Strangely soapy bitter finish. Do not recommend.

UPDATED: OCT 27, 2013 Smell is remotely skunky with notes of sweet caramel. Flavor is almost similar to a porter or sweet stput. Pretty good.

Not a great looking beer, little carbonation, head dies to a ring, copper colour. Aroma is mild. Maybe some sweet malt. Taste is OK. Not a lot of peat or smoke, but it still is a very drinkable malty beer. It’s a little sweet. Finish is a bit creamy. Overall, not a bad beer. Not a giant Scottish ale, but OK.
