Malty and hoppy, we at Belhaven love the classic Scottish Ale and weíve been brewing it longer than any of the other beers we produce. Delivering a sweet, smooth and creamy finish, Scottish Ale has a stunning ruby colour in the glass. Magic.

Poured from bottle into a pint glass. Aromas of grassy hops, brine, some nutty malts. It looks enticing, with a perfect coppery-red color and a fluffy white head. Lots of nutty, roasted malt flavor, some peaty, smoky flavor akin to Scotch, with the hops only there for structure and a biting finish. The finish is a bit strange for me, with a sharp dried-hop bite and a lingering smoky flavor. It does have a nice, creamy mouthfeel that counters the smoky flavor.

440ml can. Amber/brown pour with small lasting off white head. Aroma is soft and malty, almost nonexistent. Flavor is light caramel and malt. Kinda boring but velvety smooth...one and done.

UPDATED: OCT 28, 2013 0.5l bottle. Skunky aroma. Clear dark amber color, lame head. Unpleasant flavor with some malty, nutty and hoppy notes saving it from being the biggest disaster ever. Strangely soapy bitter finish. Do not recommend.

UPDATED: OCT 27, 2013 Smell is remotely skunky with notes of sweet caramel. Flavor is almost similar to a porter or sweet stput. Pretty good.

Not a great looking beer, little carbonation, head dies to a ring, copper colour. Aroma is mild. Maybe some sweet malt. Taste is OK. Not a lot of peat or smoke, but it still is a very drinkable malty beer. Itís a little sweet. Finish is a bit creamy. Overall, not a bad beer. Not a giant Scottish ale, but OK.

Light malt, caramel, some hops. Really low profile, but quite nicely balanced and OK drinking beer. Liked sweetness

Poured from a bottle. Clear light brown color, medium white head. Good skunk smell. Light Pete flavor with not much of a finish.

UPDATED: APR 17, 2014 500ml can (Drink Shop, Tallinn)
Wooly aroma. Darm orange, widget head - splashed all over my hands as I opened the can - docking it a point for that. Mashy wooly taste, sweet. Bland and dead, but inoffensive.
Rerate: 330ml bottle (Koht, Tallinn) (5:3:5:3:10=2.6)
Same beer. This time itís a brown bottle rather a can with a widget. Extra point just for that. Still too slimy.
