Malty and hoppy, we at Belhaven love the classic Scottish Ale and we’ve been brewing it longer than any of the other beers we produce. Delivering a sweet, smooth and creamy finish, Scottish Ale has a stunning ruby colour in the glass. Magic.

Clear deep copper with a fair light tan head. Lightly fruity, quite earthy, slightly nutty, very stark and British, a little roasted, some toffee notes; dry with a gentle bitterness and a fruity, British malt finish.

Light amber-brown, whiskey-colored body. Thin head, high carbonisation. Whiskey-like grainy smell, with a hint of caramel. Easy-to-drink beer with a nice smooth flavor of nuts, caramel, smoke/roast and outmeal with a nice bittersweet butterscotch aftertaste. Great Scottish ale

16oz Can. Explodes and fizzes all over the table upon opening after a couple days of sitting in a walk in cooler. Pours into glass a rich sienna color with a thin veil of eggshell foam. Nose is graham cracker, toasted grain, roasted peanuts and honey. Carbonation is flat and watery... I think something went wrong with their widget. Palate follows the nose with soft sweet toasted grain, nutty malt and a lingering smooth honey flavor. Meh, doesn’t make my Scottish heritage proud.

I’m a big fan of the style and this one hits all the right notes, though "magic" might be a stretch. Nose is odd, though not off putting, hint of mildewish aroma/mushroom, malty, slightly earthy (suspected source of mildew input), caramel, treacle. Hints of esters, phenols appropriate for style. Beautiful deep golden, crystal clear, low dense head, no lacing. Taste reflects aroma but without any hint of off flavor, more bready/grainy than nose, sweetness comes through, mildly grassy in a pleasant way. Palate is perfect! Viscosity is medium, very low cask-like carbonation, very dry finish for style, highly drinkable. Overall a joy to drink, the yeast and phenols scream scottish ale. Straightforward yet complex, the best of what session beers or daily drinkers are all about!
