COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
bottle, US export version
Malty and hoppy, we at Belhaven love the classic Scottish Ale and we’ve been brewing it longer than any of the other beers we produce. Delivering a sweet, smooth and creamy finish, Scottish Ale has a stunning ruby colour in the glass. Magic.

Bottle from B&M Watford 5.2%. Aroma is dinstinctive greene King yeast, burnt fudge, butterscotch and some grassy hop. Clear reddy copper coloured pour with a thin greyish cream coloured head. Flavour is thin sweet caramel water, butterscotch and sweet raisin and nutty malts.Finish has a bit of metalic note in the finish. Palate is thin and a bit watery, moderate carbonation and semi-sweet.

Pours deep, clear copper into a thistle. Off white head recedes to mottle surface. Dusty caramel aromas. Dry with sweet caramel and vanilla front to back. Abrupt finish.

Nutty caramel aroma. Crisp clear brown body with a mild head to start but fades fairly quick. Caramel and nut noticeable in flavor too. Mild bitterness. Has a smooth texture and has a fairly clean finish.

330 ml bottle with ABV = 5.2%, served in a snifter. Pours clear ruby-amber with a small, weak head. Mild aroma features sweet malts with light, but evident, hopping. The flavor really follows the aroma. Some light sweetness at the outset transitions to a very mild bitterness in the finish. Well balanced, mild and easy to drink.

2 x 330ml bottles from B&M, Gateshead, poured the first carefully into an English pint, the second was used to top up and refresh the head. First issue, and you can see from the illustration, this is not a "stunning ruby colour", and decanting it into the glass doesn’t change the rather pleasing clear deep amber body. Nice tight white head though, made for a nice looking pint. Aroma of almondbread, and rusty water. Flavour is predominantly caramel toffee with a hint of medicinal cough drop. A bit thin, slightly slick, but ultimately, disappointing: and I had hopes...

Light amber, low head retention, medium carbonation. Caramel, malty aroma and flavor, dry, crisp. A very good example of a Scottish Ale. Delicious.

Nitro can. Very pretty while pouring and after. The primary taste of this is somewhere between caramel and toffee. Low hop, very smooth palate. Lovely. It isn’t an American rendition of a Scottish ale, which I think is a bit of a pastiche of the real thing.

11.2 Fl. Oz. Bottle. Poured dark brown, clear, nice tan head and some lacing. Aroma of caramel, dark fruit, nuts and grain. Taste of malts, nuts and some slight hop notes. Decent, drinkable, not bad.
