Rated on 10-30-2009 (Bottle) When poured, this beer forms a large fizzy tan head that mostly diminishes, mostly opaque dark brown body, carbonation observed, and an abundant amount of lacing. The Aroma is chocolate, roasted malt. The Taste is lightly bitter, chocolate, roasted malt, lightly hoppy and has a semi-dry finish. The Palate is tingly and this beer is medium bodied. In conclusion, this beer is very easy to drink given the style and the ABV. It is worth trying and a beer I would drink again.

Bottled: unk Pours a dark ale with two fingers of latte foam, this falls slowly to a quilt of the same leaving lots of cobwebs. Very roasty nose; plenty of dark, coffee, charcoal malts and even nearly a savory, almost salty smell. Really a rich nose. Very roasty flavor as well with stone fruit, umami, coffee, oatmeal, some catty hops and even a little thyme flavor. I like this beer so far, really crushable as a stout. A little short of full bodied with moderate, but short lived carb and a semi dry finish. This is a really nice beer with hi potential for being paired with fire broiled red meats, taters, and some veggies. Good stuff. Serving type: bottle 02-13-2012

February 18th, 2012 - The Belhaven Scottish Stout is so Scottish sounding that I half expect the bottle to be sporting a kilt with a tartan from East Lothian. But a wee something is amiss. And truth be told, it’s not just the absence of a Scottish brogue from the bottle neck that makes this beer decidedly not Scottish. The characteristic flavor and aroma are missing too - the most tragic nullification of what could have been a sweet, low and tasty blend of peat, caramelized sugars and booze. Instead, the aroma is simply and unprofoundly malty, with a sweet directness that delivers the sugars, but with a curt grunt and a tangible apathy. The flavor adds another dimension, featuring notes of licorice and sassafras, giving this brew a palate with more in common with a root beer than a Scotch Ale. The palate is light like a root beer too, and while the flavor has some appealing qualities, it’s bland and boring, and a far cry from what I had hoped for based on the label.

Black body with creamy foamy long lacing mocha tone head. Aroma is roasted malts, plums, leather, chocolate and raw cacao beans. Palate is oily, sticky flat with flat carbonation and mouthfeel. Taste is vaguely bitter and dry with roasty malts. and cacao beans. Finish is medium long, dry and maybe too sweet.

Dåse. Mørk mahogny rød med et creamy, stabilt beige skumhovede og en ristet, maltet aroma. Brød, chocolade, lakrids, cikorie mere end kaffe. Blød tekstur, vandig, let krop. Lav karbonering. Drukket den 22.4.12.

Bottle. Pours dark brown with a rocky head that’s gone in a moment leaving no lacing. Aroma of heavy molasses and dark roasted malt. Taste is heavy sweet and very lightly bitter. Body is light, sticky texture, lively carbonation, hides alcohol very well and leaves you with a sticky sweet finish.

Black with creamy tan head. Aroma of coffee, dark chocolate with some grains. Slight lightstruck, skunky smell. Taste of coffee, chocolate with some fruitness. Moderate roastiness. Medium bitterness, a bit of dark malts acidity. some background sweetness (very light). Carbonation a bit too high. Creamy on palate. Very nice stout.
