2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
The aroma is very toasted with chocolate, coffee, and sugar. The appearance is dark brown with a foamy head. The flavor is like the aroma with a bitter soapy finish. The palate is smooth. Overall this is a good stout and interesting but not great.

4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
500ml bottle. Deepest shade of brown-black, thick beige head. Mellow sweet roasty aroma. Creamy, rich chocolate taste with some delicate hop bitterness. Excellent balance. The alcohol content goes unnoticed, any warmth perfectly combined with the bitter hops and chocolate. Mellow carbonation. An awesome beer.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
(bottle) Black coloured hue with a dense and massive brown foamy head. Slightly dust and quite sweet roasty malt aroma with a tinge of red berries, caramel and cacao. Sweet-bitter flavour, medium to full bodied with a soft carbonation. Moderately roasted malty base with notes of caramel, chocolate, berry fruits and syrupy molasses; sweet and slightly burnt bitter finish with notes of alcohol. The stronger brother of McCallums Stout, also too sweet for my liking (14.VII.09).

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Reviewed 6/14/2009 (Bottle):
Pours a dark dark reddish brownish color body. Big foamy tan colored head. Very lasting. Roasted coffee aroma. Some sweet chocolate notes too. Some dark fruitiness. Roasted flavor, light coffee too. Some chocolate notes. Slightly watery body. Pretty tasty, but a little alcoholy. Warming up, more subdued flavors, smoother, less alcohol.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle shared with the Woody’s crew. Pours an opaque black with large ring of tan head. Aroma brings out dark berries as it warms. Flavor is very roasty, toasted, caramel, chocolate, dark raspberries, and finishes with some bitter dark chocolate notes. Some coffee grounds are lingering around in the mix too. Medium chewy body with a creamy effervescence. Good warming sensation, but no alcohol heat.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
UPDATED: JUN 21, 2013 Black with a lasting light brown head. Aroma of chocolate with some vanilla and caramel and a touch of smoke. The flavour is sweet and roasted, chocolate with smoke and ash, but somewhat grainy and rather thin. It has the strength of a foreign extra stout, but the flavour of a 4% stout, and I prefer it the other way around.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle brown, 500 ml
Appearance: Pours almost pitch black, slightly dark rubby body, very well roasted malt, non transparent, carbonation of the body is rather weak and hard to spot, head is initially big or even huge, very slowly decreasing to medium, nice and firm lacing, head is frothy, deep and essential, very compact, woody brownish in colour.
Aroma: Very intensive, strongly and deeply roasted, notes of toastyness, ash, coal, chockolate, earthy hops, leaves, Munich malt, dark malt, chockolate malt, notes of dark chockolate, toffee, coffee, dark bread, roasted malt, coffee beans, really inviting and somehow still refreshing.
Flavour: Perfectly roasted, ashy, smoky barley grains, coffee, dark chockolate, cacao, intensive, deep, focused, slightly salty, nice carbonation on palate giving the character to the beer, earthy - leavy hoppyness, nice alcoholic warmth coming together with all the nice flavour impression. Finish duration is long, rich and strong.
Palate: Body is medium to full, texture is dry, carbonation on palate is moderate, finish feel is bitter, gently alcoholic, very focused on chockolate - cacao - roasted oriented taste. Really decent stout.
