Rarely seen in St Andrew’s these days. Or Scotland for that matter. The Greene King influence continues to disappoint.Likely to do with the now liberal use of their own home yeasts on this formerly unique beers. And this one lacks balance. That’s not to say its bad. Soft brown toffee morish quality with a pinch of earth. But it needs more structure and more development at the beginning and end. As a beer as itself its fine but it bares little resemblance to what it once was under Belhaven ownership.

On tap. Aroma of malt, biscuit and grain, some spicy notes. Taste about the same, hop profile is almost non-existant.

1/2 at the Tilley Stone Gateshead. Dark amber with a dense white head. Dried fruit aroma, annd fruit cake in the flavour. Nothing out of the ordinary, and not remotely complex, but strangely enjoyable. Slick mouth feel, nice bitter finish, could imagine a session. However, like the previous rater, I would probably havee slated it if it was less than tip-top condition.
