A stunning India Pale Ale (IPA), don’t think that Belhaven’s Twisted Thistle has anything jaggy, spikey, prickly or otherwise pain-inflicting in its nature. Quite the opposite. Your taste buds will tingle with pleasure after a sip or two of this golden nectar. A real treat from our master brewers in Dunbar.
Ingredients: Pale malt, Cascade and Challenger hops.

Bottle 355ml. A clear golden colour with a high, creamy, good lacing, off-white head. An aroma of malt and hops. T taste is medium sweet and bitter. A medium body, oily texture, soft carbonation and a long bitter finish.

BB JUL2016. Poured a crystal clear golden amber with a one-finger off-white frothy head that slowly diminished to a collar that laced well. Carbonation very high and coarse. Aroma of sweet malt with no obvious hops and no grapefruit as per the deScription. Taste is quite sweet of caramel and fruits followed by a moderate bitterness. Light body. Crisp and refreshing with a lingering sweetness and a lingering moderate bitterness. Under-hopped for an IPA.

Bottle from Seiyu. Pours a clear dark gold with almost no head that fizzed away. The aroma is strong candied malt, and a floral citrus hop. The flavour is decent, the malt sweetness balanced out by a decent bitterness. It ends a touch grainy. It’s light and has lively prickly carbonation. Nothing to write home about but at this cheap price point it’s worth taking a few to a bbq.

Pours in straw with very small head. Taste is malty with light hops but not significant. Palate leaves you wishing for more hops to fulfil the picture. Nice plain ipa but nothing to write home about.

Pours dark amber colored and clear with an off-white head, which rapidly disappears nearly completely. Intense malty on the nose, less hops than expected. Slightly fruity aroma of peach and pineapple. Slightly sweet initial flavor, medium bitterness but nearly no hoppy notes in the flavor. Bitternes flattens leading to an average long, medium bitter finish. Nothing interesting in it. It has a light to medium body with soft carbonation. Had expected far more from this so-called IPA.

Tastes more so like a blond, not an ipa. Minimal hop character, fruity, creamy with some bitterness. OK beer, but does not deserve to be called an ipa as others mention.

Grain, mineral and tiny fruit on nose. Malt on taste. Lack of hops profile. Quite horrible as an IPA.

Pours nice golden orange, clear but not too transparent, has a feel that this boy has also doe malty body. Aroma has soft malts and a small bitter prickle. Taste is bitterish, not really bitter but just decently, Still more like British IPA than American one, which was to be expected. I kind of like it, it is still hoppy and not bad at all Strong malt body is keeping this beer up nicely and probably at the price I am getting this from my local SEIYU, I am sure I’ll have it again.

Another cheap Seiyu brew had me not expecting so much as IPAs from most English breweries tend to be fairly tame but Belhaven’s Twisted Thistle IPA poured a lovely copper with a big citrusy hop bouquet. I was really surprised at the zesty citrus aroma but mouthwateringly so. Medium bodied with a very spritzer seltzerish carbonation. The taste is bitter then a classic UK malty biscuit profile before finishing with sweeter fruity hop notes. The flavor doesn’t pack the punch of the aroma but is alright, maybe the hops dropped out in transit? It’s still a fairly solid beer for like 250 yen.

BBE 03-2016. 330ml pullo. Kuparinen, iso huteravaahtoinen. Raikkaahko ipamainen tuoksu, marjaisa katkera suufiilis, lievää tylppyyttä ja metallisuutta, ei erityisen kuiva mutta snadin katkera, rungon pohja puuttuu, vähän vetinen. Lähes leipäisä jälkifiilis. Semiok IPA.
