A stunning India Pale Ale (IPA), don’t think that Belhaven’s Twisted Thistle has anything jaggy, spikey, prickly or otherwise pain-inflicting in its nature. Quite the opposite. Your taste buds will tingle with pleasure after a sip or two of this golden nectar. A real treat from our master brewers in Dunbar.
Ingredients: Pale malt, Cascade and Challenger hops.

UPDATED: MAY 24, 2014 Not my favourite IPA. Low ABV for an IPA (5.6%). Rather limited hop aroma, taste and bitterness.

Flaske, 33 cl. Klar ravgylden, lavt off-white skum. Engelsk i malten, new world i humlen. Sødlig, toasted, karamel, let toffee, dåsefersken, appelsin, tropisk frugt. Medium bitter, ok.

Amber body and stable head. Grapefruit hops, biscuit malts, tomato compote strangely. Well developed, nicely brewed. Quite classic in malts, but that’s no problem. Bit too light perhaps. (33cl bottle from Saveur Bière)

Bottle. Pours golden amber with a white head. Lemon, light malt aroma. Light to medium body, medium carbonation. Light pine, lemon, grass, sponge cake... OK. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

500ml Bottle. Poured in a my favorite Grimbergen glass. Very decent IPA. This is the second beer that I get from Belhaven and, like the first one, it’s not disappointing at all. a: Clear yellow gold color. Thin white head. s: Fresh hops. Nevertheless, more discrete than a regular American IPA. t: Dry and bitter (as is should be :)). Fresh malt and moderate alcohol. m: Hop taste in the end. Leaves a reasonable bitterness in the tong. d: For the ones that like bitters and IPAs like me, this would be a pleasure. [ BA Review @ 11/24/2009 ]

Poured with no head. A pleasant beer. Not as much aroma as I expected but a well balanced British IPA. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On tap at the Champion of the Thames, Cambridge. Dark gold, a bit of head and lacing. Lots of carbonation. Unfortunate vinegar sour smell. Forest floor and malt also in the aroma but no suggestion of hops. The taste is far better: savoury/woody and sweet with a long bittersweet finish. Champagne-tickly mouthfeel. It is what it is: a GK attempt at craft. Ok, but I’ve had better.

Tap@o’connells in tampere. Pours clear light amber with thin pale head. Aroma of caramel and honey, hoppy palate with toffee, grapefruit and bread hints

Bottle. Pours clear, amber, with a white head that disappates quickly. Medium bodied, medium carbonation, fine bubbles. Aroma is malt, toast, bread, biscuit, slight caramel. Taste is caramel, bread, grapefruit. Palate is slightly dry, thick and sweet. Finish is dry and slightly sweet.

Tap@böackdoor. Copper clear. Light citrussy nose, fruity slight perfumy, caramels. Whoa, really tee- ish (camomille/lemon green) flavour, caramels. Light crackery malts. I used to drink tons of this stuff before, but can’t remember it being this... perfumy. Light ginger there too.,

330cl bottle from Systembolaget. A somewhat boring aroma with a surprisingly rich taste. Very fizzy for an IPA with a nice bitter finish.
